Hey, someone just gave me several battery operated chargers that take the 9 volt batteries.... Batteries are expensive. Anyone know if there is a rechargeable 9V battery for fence chargers (and a charger to do it)? Or would you be able to hook up a 12 volt battery to them (maybe let it drain down a little)???

Thanks, Dave

I have never heard of 9 volt fence chargers, just 6 and 12 volt. You can use auto batteries but marine deep cycle batteries will take more charge/discharge cycles than standard auto batteries.

I never heard of a 9 volt either. I have a few 12 volts that I have solar panels charging a deep cycle battery.

Are you speaking of those little rectangular 9v transistor radio batteries with booth connections on one end? If so, I wouldn't expect such a fence charger to be WAS.

I have a friend who gives me stuff that doesnt work.It takes and 85 amp hour 12 v battery to do good work.

I remember the old style drycell type batteries - I suspect that is what you are referring to. I am not a expert on fence chargers however assuming 12 volts is excessive (?) have you considered an 8 volt lead acid battery? A fully charged 8 volt will read about 8.5 volts which may/should be close enough to work. It would be interesting to monitor the voltage of your 9 volt battery to determine the level at which the charger no longer functions. For charging I use a small 12 volt solar panel to maintain a battery for one of my remote applications.

The top of the line Parmak solar charger sells for 279.00 It has a small 12 volt battery in it.A 12v charger would not work at 8 volts.A 6v will stop working if the battery drops to 5 volts.I have been working on fence chargers since the mid 50s,Never assume anything about them.I have to know how they work and how to repair them.I have 10 sick ones in the shop now. There are a few freak chargers that run on flash light batteries. They might keep a tom cat out of your flowers thats all.
