Putting a new floor on a gooseneck

I have 25ft gooseneck trailer, the wood floor is shot and needs to be replaced, what is the best ways to remove the wood and screws, I assume the screws arent going to want to come out very easily, whats the best type of fasteners and wood to use to redo this project?

The fastest is to buy the special screws that will drill through the steel and are self threading. That is probably what was used origionally by the factory. Just break the old ones off as you take the old boards off.

Bust up the floor and grind off the screws.
Replace with oak tongue and groove if you can get it if not use treat tongue and groove same size and the old boards. Fasten them down with either nuts and bolts or stainless screws.

I did mine 6 years ago. I was told NOT to use toung and grove as this does not let the water drain very well and it rots faster. I didn"t even use treated lumber. Just white board planks and sealed with a gallon of deck sealer. I deilled holes and used self tapping deck screws with stainless washers on them. I am happy so far with it.

Cottonwood.that $h!+ is tough as nails, wont split(it does tend to "run around" if wet when installed),not heavy.around here it fairly cheap.

Space your boards so water can drain! Use white oak-Dad tells of a trailer he did that way 40 years prior-and it was still good! Never was shedded either!

If you're not concerned with over loading, check with your county commissioner about old bridge planks. I got some from mine 15 years ago just to get them out of the way. They are 4" x12" and creosote covered. no rotting in that time. I originally attached them with steel self tapping, drilling screws. They rusted out in about 7-8 years. Replaced with 3/8" stainless steel carriage bolts and no more problems. Several years later the commissioner had some used 6" x 18" pressure treated beams that he couldn't get rid of so he called me to ask if I wanted them. I took them. They make great skids for portable buildings or beams for room additions.
