Darned Baler!

Silly air bags found a leak on my NH855. Gonna take $2600 for bags, chains and sprokets.

I'm thinkin' maybe it might be time to rent this derned place out?

Heck, I could buy a heck of a lot of whiskey for that much money. :>)

I just finished baling yesterday. You can come borrow my round baler. $2600? You're going to have to bale some hay to pay for that repair.
David

Don't know what I'm gonna do yet.

Still have a couple hundred acres to do and my little 849 only makes a 1,000 lb bale. Lots of stopping to dump. :>(

Might just do the air bags this year to the tune of $600 and rebuild the chains this winter....or go look for a good baler.

Don't wanna spend the money! :>)

Those decisions are tough. Especially when there is hay to bale. No guarantee anything you buy will be field ready, and no guarantee that something else won't fly apart after you sink the money in your current rig. I think I'd spend the 600, and then see what I could find over the winter. $2000 plus the value of your current baler goes quite a ways towards a different one.

Yep,

You're wayyyy smarter than your years Dave! Think it is that Wyoming upbringing of yours. :>)

I may know a guy that will sell his 855 as he bought a new Case last year. It would be another hour south from David.

Over around Cheyenne?

I bought this one for $1500 and it's been flawless for many, many years now. :>)

Allan-Would a NH 851 be a similar baler? Watt Tractor has one for $1750 that doesn't look too bad.

It would be a few miles North of Burns. I get up into your area a little bit when there is a good auction with some Minneapolis stuff on it.

Thanks Neighbor,

Would you mind contacting the guy as to 'sell' status and if so, it's condition?

Gwad! I hate the thought of buyin' a new one. I just simply like OLD stuff. :>)

Allan-There seems to be a few around for sale. Here is one in Iowa.
Jun 30, 2011 · Real nice NH 855 round baler with good chain, sprockets, idlers, and pickup. 515-795-2943 it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other ...

Yep,

Just did some shopping around on machine locater. Can't believe what those old things still sell for.

Heck, mine is in better shape and newer than anything I found.

Wife says go buy a brand new belt baler. Naw, I'm gonna order a couple of air bags (I'm a tightwad). :>)

Sound's like my year. New disc mower, new baler belts, front spindle for tractor and three new tires. If it was fun everyone would want to do it!!

Thought you bought the farm cause you love it. And what would wifie do with all those horses?

I bought my 855 for $1000 with a couple of bearings out in the tailgate sprockets. The previous owner had just got done putting new airbags in it and was so mad he just wanted it gone.

I replaced the bearings and two others on idlers that were noisy and haven't had a lick of trouble with the machine for the 3 years I used it.... until this year. I had a connector link on the chain come apart and it wrecked two tubes. Then I had one of the bolts that holds to the tube to the chain break.

It's a tough decision on rebuilding the old girls. I think I may just buy new chains for mine and leave all the old bearings and idlers on it. As soon as you go whole-hog on rebuilding something else will break.

It's not how much wiskey it'll buy but how long it'll last...

2600 is a chunk of coin for an old baler... but look at it this way. That'll buy a roller or mabey two for a Claas or make a couple payments on a new one.
