Waxing A Lawn Mower

Hi,

I have two older lawnmowers , about early 1990 to 1995, that I washed and need a good coat of wax to make them shine . One is a blue Lowes mower made by AYP that I am trying to sell . It has a blue plastic hood and blue metal fenders , the rest is black metal . I've touched up the black with a fresh coat of paint , but what can I put on the blue , especially the plastic, to make it shine close to a new one . I also have a red Murrary which is pretty much all metal except for the black plastic bubble front end of the hood , same problem. What can I use also on this to make it shine ? They , especially the Murrary , hadn't been washed for a years and was starting to turn green from setting outside all year , but I do put them under tarp for winter . I put cleaner on them to clean and kill the mold , but now I need them to shine . Any ideas cheap, but reasonable ideas ? Thanks for any and all information .

Please read also the posts under the Lawn and Garden Tractor section on this website about some more lawnmower problems that I have and give advice.

Hey, Whiz, go to Pep Boys and buy a bottle of their best car polish, and try that on the mowers! Just make sure you have all of the painting done first, because the silicone in the polish will play heck with any paint that you want to use on it later on!

other than the paint job, crazy as it sounds, if you also/happen paint the under side [blade], put a coat of wax on it, it will make the clippings from sticking and go easier in to the bag. did it on my new mower before first usage. even wet grass doesn"t stick.

The folks on the Airstream forums reccomend Future for shining up the dulled interiors of their trailers. Future is a liquid wax product - kind of like like Mop and Glow without the cleaner for waxing linoleum floors. Should be able to find it at Target etc.

ICE liquid wax. Get it @ walmart or anywhere. Can use it on all exterior surfaces except glass. Bring back faded plastic to like new shine. No white residue to worry about. I use it and all my cars and equipment.

I would not use anything abrasive on the molded plastic, as it may not be painted.

I use Nu Finish on my automobiles and tractors and find it easy to use and effective.

After washing and letting the mower dry, I use Pledge furniture polish. The cheaper store brand works just as well. Just like waxing, I use one cloth to apply and another to buff off.
