Vermeer Baler 504I - problem with cushion valve?

Hi, I have the above baler and have experienced the problem that the hydraulic ram for the tying mechanism would not move. Checked oil level in tractor and could still open tail gate for baler so do not think the problem is here. Sieems that there is no flow getting through cushion valve on the baler. I have removed the lines leading into and out of the valve and looked inside but cannot see the problem. Any ideas??? Thanks. Peter

Maybe switch hoses on the tractor in case a coupler has gone bad, or possibly there is a problem on the tractor hydraulics. Try reversing the hoses in case the valve only accepts flow in one direction. Is this cushion valve the valve that controls the speed of the twine being put on the bale? I used to have a 504SI baler that had an adjustment screw on that valve. Is it possible the screw is turned all the way in and not letting oil pass? If this is the valve you are referring to, it can be taken apart to see any possible problem inside. Wayne

Wayne as made a couple good suggestions. You might also check the male ends your hydraulic hoses as the they sometimes fail to let oil pass through them.
