old equipment still makes hay

I know this is just playing around to most of you guys but made 50+ round bales since monday when I cut first field. You have to keep in mind my equipment consists of Oliver 1650 gas which I overhauled the engine two years ago Gehl 1090 haybine IH #16 five bar rake and New Holland 851 round baler. I also work from 4 am until 3 in the afternoon so do not have a lot of spare time. Everything worked good only breakdown was reel drive chain replaced link and good to go. This was in 4 different fields so a lot of moving stuff around. It was a good week.

Hey Ron,

Good job getting your hay in with the old equipment. My newest tractor is an early 70's 4430 and my oldest is a 1955 60, so I know how you feel about keeping old equipment running. Whereabouts in Wisconsin are you?

mines not new either, vicon disk mower, early model, pull it with a 5303 jd, old jd 4 bar rake, 870 I think, pull it with a 37 F-20, drop the mower and hook to the 852 new holland baler, when baling small squares, use a D-14 or 420 jd with 5 spd and lpto. in front of a super liner 69 new holland. put up around 200 big rounds, and anywhere from 14 hundred to 2000 small squares.

old equipment?, Glad you got her baled Ron.

is a round baler (big round bales) considered "old equipment"? heck I though my thrower rack, and John Deer 336 square baler with thrower was old equipment..

but I have something older, that is a New Holland hay baler with a Wisconsin 4 cylinder engine, that will work, and also my Dads' old model "66" New Holland baler with the pto drive, I ain't ever baled with a round baler unless of course one is talking about the old Allis Chalmers "round balers"..

That 4430 is still a NEW tractor, don't think about tractors being older without going back to the 60's and old to the 40's.

We make hay with a Farmall 140 raking and tedding and an International 464 Diesel cutting and baling. We have got a John Deere 36 series square baler and a small John Deere bar rake. Our cutter is a 7 foot Vicon disc mower, and our 2 basket tedder is Vicon as well. We make a few thousand bales a year.

you did good. It needed time to dry anyway, why push something till it breaks, no crime to go easy. All my stuff was +30 -except the finiky baler, and if I had everything done by the time snow flies, and my big modern aribiz neighbors finished the same week, we're even ain't we? Rabbits don't like it when the turtle wins.....

See my other post up one or so. I run older stuff then you but hey if it works why the heck not. Oliver S88 pulling an NH850 did a grand total of 6 bales today. I like to take it slow and easy or is it my body demands I take it slow and easy. I only do around 50 or so bales a year (rounds) and maybe if I get a 2nd cutting around 200 squares 35LBS or so each
