Been busy haying as fast as we can for the last week or so. With 100 degree heat and low humidity, you can cover ground, but a thundershower popped up this afternoon, and now we're done till tomorrow, so I thought I'd pass along some pictures. Sorry, no mowing pictures. Guess I never took the camera the days I ran the mower

What is the market there for small bales? Buyers want grass, alflafa or mix? What is the going price if the buyers pick them up out of the field?
I have 1000 bales of alfalfa/OG presold of my july 8th ? cutting for $2.75, buyer picks them off the field behind the baler. Or hooks his trailers
to the baler if not his goosenecks.

Buyers want all different types. Alfalfa, grass, alfalfa grass mix. Heavier on the grass, heavier on the alfalfa. I never get it right, but they keep coming back. Whiny horse people anyways. Hay is running from about 90-110 a ton for fair to poor quality cow hay in round or big square bales, up to 200 a ton for horse quality small square bales, if you're willing to sell small quantities, of less then 100 bales. Semi loads of horse quality small square bales seems to be around 150 a ton loaded. All prices negotiable' or course, based on quality and quantity. I don't sell hay out of the field, just out of the stack.

Horse buyers pay $4.75 out of the field for our square bales of coastal bermuda. Out of the barn the price is $5.25. In my opinion you could get a lot more out of your alfalfa if it is good quality. Around here alfalfa is always considerably higher than bermuda, however, orchard grass is generally cheaper than bermuda, but I guess that may just be location.

Nice pictures. I'd love to make it out that way to see Wyoming in person. Is your land irrigated or do you recieve enough rainfall in your area?

Our farm ground is irrigated, so all the hay pictures are on irrigated ground. We do have quite a bit of dryland pasture ground that we run cattle on in the summer. This has been a good, wet year for the pastures.
