Way OT;Pikes Peak Hill Climb

Sunday June 26 was tha annual Pikes Peak Hill climb at Colorado Springs Colorado. My 50 year old son was able to once again participate. This was the last year where the Highway had a dirt section.2012 the road will be all paved and maybe see the end of this historic race. Any way he did good again placing 8th out of 17 competitors in ths class he runs in "Open 4 stroke Motorcycle" I have attached a picture of his modified KTM 500 and of him in all his gear.If you like Hill climbs this event is a blast.I've been there several times.Dan has competed for 15 years.

Good show!

I once drove a GMC full size conversion van with a 6.2 diesel to the top of Pike's Peak. At one point on the way back down, I asked my wife how far she thought we'd launch off that sucker if we lost our brakes.

She wouldn't talk to me the rest of the way down.

I've driven to the top twice. Don't know how those guys can race it like they do. I had all I could do to stay cool just coasting along.

Yeah we did,Got home yesterday to the Phoenix Az. Valley,115',Dry/Dry 1200' El. from 60',damp,mostly 8500 to 9500' el. Quite a change. For some good viewing Google 2011 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The Monster from Japan in his Susuki is very/very impressive. You hear that Suz screaming in the distance and suddenly it's here and then gone. The adrenaline gets a rush I kid you not.Dan ran about 80 MPH ,up from 78 MPH last year so he advanced some and beat his last years time by 9 seconds to post a 13.1 from the start line to the top.Lots of racing stories to tell about this guy, glad he's my son.

Great job! That is one race I have always wanted to drive in.....or at least attend. Hard to get away from the farm at that time of year. I better go get back in my tractor now.....

My dad let me drive up Pike's Peak either when I had my learners permit or had just gotten my license. Mom was white knuckled all the way up and down. Quite a boost of confidence for me.

Went to the race in 70, when I was stationed at Fort Carson. Back then none of the road was paved and the Unser brothers drove in the race. I still have pictures with my 67 chevy parked along side of the road as they raced by. Still have the car also.

Eastern motorcycle club out of Baltimore
had one here in whiteford . I built it and
maintained it for them, I have no idea how
many 100's loads of dirt we put into that
hill.It was quite a hill before adding to it.
I packed and shaped it with a dozer ,some
with a 450 case and later with a 1000 case.
Insurance got so high they couldn't make it
go , so it just shut down.
