PTO adaptors

Can someone tell me the shaft size on a case ih 395 ?Im thinking its 1.750 6 spline and i need to to be sized down to 1.375 for my brush hog. Cant find a adaptor except at the dealer for the price of a arm and a leg!!!! Cant find a description of the sizes or any info on the size. Tractors 50 miles away at the land would like to get one before i go back there.

If possible, you may want to change the yoke on the driveshaft of the mower. An adapter will add several inches to the pto length, which may cause interference problems, binding, or driveline noise.

Is there such a thing as 1 3/4" 6 spline?
My CaseIH 7240 has a large, 1000 RPM shaft only. I think it's 20 spline?
I have adaptors that I use on it to run a 540 RPM (1 3/8" 6 spline) bush hog.
I say adaptors because the first one has a slight twist in it. Even at 11-1200 engine RPM apparently there's enough torque to do damage. When I went to get another adaptor I heard the same story twice- LAWSUIT- good luck getting an adaptor! So I ordered one from two different places. They both eventually showed up!
With my drawbar lengthened WAY out it's just far enough with the added PTO length on there.
Be careful!

If you're talking about a ~35 hp early 90's CaseIH Doncaseter utility tractor tractor, I can absolutely guarnantee you that it left the factory with a standard 1-3/8" 6 spline 540 shaft. 1-3/4" is generally reserved today for what is termed 'large 1000' found on tractors over 160 PTO hp.
Is is possible that your hog has a 1-1/8" small 540 shaft yolk for fitting to an older tractor like an 'N' or earlier hundred series Ford that used a 1-1/8" 6 spline before 1-3/8" became the standard?

Bob you can change your pto unit to a dual speed like the 7230 has.Makes the tractor much more usable, have changed 3 or 4 of them.

Yep that was standard on the G's, The early A & B was 1 1/8" with not too long untill they were changed to 1 3/8". Have seen the 1 1/8" twisted and wondered how in the world they were able to twist that shaft.

My local CaseIH expert has told me about that. Maybe if I used it for more PTO jobs. I ordered the Bush Hog 540 on purpose because I wouldn't dare run the 7240 at rated speed. I couldn't afford a mower rated for that much power!

Thanks for all the replys, Hears more to the story, I just bought the brush hog last friday it says manufactor date 05/11 so with that i would think theat shaft is 1 3/8. I did not measure it all i know is the shaft on the troctor pto is larger 6 spline so after i got home i started digging . I have found some adapters now. But again the tractor is 50 miles away . I cant seem to find anything even on the case ih site that tells me the diam of the shaft , yes it says 27 spline 9 some inches but thats all not the end that hooks to the pto on brush hog. I gues i have to run up and get the measurments for sure before i do anything.
