OT: Squash Bugs

Search "pyganic" on the net. Made from a flower.Kills everything. It"s organic cert and expensive. Around $100/qt. 1 oz/gallon. Nothing nicer for potato beetles and larva. Larva fall off the leaf dead in 5-10 min.

Dont pay far out prices.Pyrethrins are not that expensive. You can buy a sprayer bottle full of premix for 2 or 3 bucks.I have bought shaker cans for 1.00 at a salvage store.Try a 10% Sevin dust on them. Most Sevin dust is 5%.

I ran into the same problem years ago. The owner of the nursery near me said they are building an imunity to the poison and giving it back to their offspring. He said to break the cycle alternate with Malathion with the next spray. In my experience it did work, but you had to stay after them.

Thank You! I'll give it a try. I love squash, but the bugs have just decimated my plants the last couple of years. I appreciate the help.

I have the exact same problem with squash bugs, I can't ever get any pumpkins or mellons because the plants die in late August. The guy at Agway steered me to a product with Pyrethrin in a carrier oil. It wasn't terribly expensive, came in a sprayer bottle, ~$8. Will know more about it by the end of the year.

The wikipedia page makes pyrethrin seem like a good choice.

if everythings up to where they cant scratch out seeds ,turn you some chickens in your garden!.sevin dust always worked for me ,but on my quash i used the wettable kind and sprayed it on.squash and stuff has such big leaves they just hide underneath.with a sprayer it will stick to bottom of leaves.

A parts man at the JD dealer told me the same thing. If a potato bug survives a spray, his offspring will be immmune.Imprid seems expensive but it works, costs me 5 bucks a year.
