John Deere 720 LP fuel guage

We hav a JD 720 LP and the fuel gauge doesnt work on it was wondering if any one has had experiance with replaceing one and what it involves, can they be rebuilt? Found a new one at JD but they want over $200. for it. Any cheaper options that anyone knows about would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
 
Kendall if it is like the gauge in a regular LP tank, Empty the tank and bleed off the pressure, carefully remove the 4 screws and the old rubber gasket and replace with a new one. Some of the tanks had the mfg name stamped on them. If you can find it and contact them they can help, if not then JD.
 
There is no rebuilding other than the obvious when you have it removed. If memory serves me you have a Visible Senior guage. These will be available from a LP parts supplier with a couple of conditions. Last one I think I got was $50 or $75. This was for a farmall 400.

The conditions are that it is a special order and will need to be manufactured to your application. for starters I think that guage is mounted at a angle and of course it is not a standard size. Since they are special made you will need to wait for the manufacturer to have a break in production which is usually the holiday break (Xmas to New years). Ask your LP supplier where they get their parts and that should get you headed down the right path.

It's good news bad news. The good news is Deere has new parts in stock for a 53 year old machine. The bad news the parts are not cheap.
 
We had the same problem with our 730 lp. we had a custom one made for $60 that looks like the original. If you would like more info on this and the number you can call my dad (Dave) at 724-991-2244 he will have the info you will need.
 
The dial part is seperate. Its held on with 2 small screws. Unless gears have jumped the rest usually doesnt give much trouble. The dial is magineticly driven.
