Ford 4600 wont crank

I used the tractor 2 weeks ago and parked it under the shed. I tried to crank it this week and the engine turns over but will not crank. I have pulled it around the farm and it acts like it want to but it dies soon as the wheels stop moving. I have drained the fuel and bleed all the lines. Any suggestions?

Diesels need compression, air, and fuel to run... check to see which isn't there...
Since you used it two weeks ago, I'm thinking its a fuel issue. Easy/cheap stuff first... is the red knob pushed in AND the lever on the injection pump that it moves in the correct position? Sometimes the cable that moves it gets weak and will shut the tractor off, but won't return the stop to the run position.

If it ran when parked, make sure the fuel shut-off lever isn't getting stiff in the pump cover and bending the cable when you push it back in. Better yet, just disconnect it and make sure the lever is all the way forward, then try to start it. If it has electric shut off (ESO) solenoid, (on the back of the pump, near the fuel inlet),make sure you have 12 volts at this wire. Was there lots of white smoke while you were pulling it around? If so, you don't have fuel system trouble. Your compression could be down, and the last time you ran it was the last time it was going to start by itself. If some white smoke, or none at all, and you've spent considerable time bleeding it, the drive shaft may have sheared off in the hydraulic head. You can check this by removing the pump cover and bump the starter to see if it turns. (The REAR pump, the one that pressurizes the housing.) That's pretty rare, but definitely a reality if you've had water in the fuel recently. But please, make sure you have heavy fuel flow at the pump first. Did you shut the fuel off and forget to turn it back on? Make no mistake, that's happened to all of us! Fritz.

Yes there was a lot of smoke pulling it around. I'll try your suggestions. I really appreciate the reply. Thank you.

Tim another possibility: could you have taken the air cleaner out and stuffed a rag in the hole to keep out foreign material? Is any part of the intake system open to wildlife? I gathered the tractor was making an effort to start. Was there any black or grey smoke while you were pulling it, indicating intermittent/low air flow?
