PAUL...what did you use for sealant? Teflon tape should be OK if carefully wrapped on the threads.

Good luck!!

I used a product called "SEAL ALL" which is a thick clear liquid petroleum resistant thought teflon would go to gum with gasoline contact but willing to try
Thanks Paul

We use "leak-lock" at work which is a blue sealant mostly for LP fittings but I've had good luck with it on gas tanks too. teflon tape on those sediment bowl with tired threads seems to be a waste.

If a different sealent does not work you may have to screw the sediment bowl in another turn or a part of a turn and then you will have to rebend your gas line to fit.

You should be OK especially if you do NOT let the tape overlap the end of the fitting and get (directly) into the stream...leave a couple threads clear from the end.

I've seen that stuff...teflon tape...come in different thicknesses. To me, the really thin stuff is a PIA to handle and would probably need an extra couple wraps to be effective. Try to get some of the thicker stuff.

You'll need to re-wrap if you have to remove the fitting and you'll know more about how much tape to use.

Good luck....Rick

I'll say like beetlejuice, 'don't ya just hate it when that happens?' Murphy's law sez nothing gets fixed the first time. OK, I used pvc on one, no problems ever since. used old fashioned plumbers puddy, or plumbers dope? on another, just as good years later. I'll tell you another thing concerning Murphy's law- some stuff I am shy of retapping, sometimes a gummy too tight thread is a good thing, this might be one of them... good luck!

They make a special teflon type tape that is made for petroleum products. It is yellow and comes in a yellow spool (like normal tape does). It is a little thicker than regular teflon, but in all the places I have used it it hasn't leaked or anything.

Slight chance there's a crack? Highly unlikely but you never know. Take a bright little LED flashlight and get up close and personal with the threaded hole and look it over close for a very fine crack. I've never seen a crack in fuel tank threads but it wouldn't hurt to take a good look. Just a shot in the dark thought! Jim

Use a thread sealant APPROVED for petroleum products, Gasoila, for example. END of problem.
