OT HO scale train idea for Lyle

Surely you have room for an 8x8 train table in your shop? I use a boat winch to store mine above the truck.

When in high school, I had a friend with a similar suspended train layout in his room. If memory serves, his father too had used a boat winch to raise/lower it.

thats a real good idea! but since the wife had taken my train room away I think your idea would work great in the master bedroom over the bed! wooo woooo I would probly get my room back once she noticed the boat winch in there
 
Hey Lyle, buy that fellers blue jack, you already got a simplex, so go borrow a couple more track jacks from the Northern Alberta, and by the time you went click click click alf the night, you will get your train room back. It was suppose to be like Old's when I started, but- I have to dig up some pics of my around the room layout, draw bridges at the door is the hang up, or crawl under it, too much cludder in there too-- I wonder if there is something 'train' I can bring to the red cross??? That's a great start you got there old. Just don't keep any expensive engines on there whilst in motion...
 
That's a nice set up, but I would also add fold up legs to stabilize it when it's down. One good bump could send those trains flying. And with the price of them now, and the detail they have, that could be disatrous. Luckily, I have dedicated room for mine. When I get my patio done, I'll start on a G gauge layout outside.
 
Looks very good! I do strongly encourage fold up legs, too. The only thing I would have done different, if I may, is add small eyebolts to the side of the layout to attach the cables to. This would permit you to hoist the cables up & out of the way when you want to work on it. It'd be a cleaner view, too. Please keep us posted on the progress.
