some of you wanted to see the inside of my shop. Well right now it is pretty messy, I will not take any pics of the way it is right now it would be just to embarassing. You have given me the motavation to get after that ugly task so I can show you the inside. Generally I keep it not to bad but this spring was a nightmare keeping up with repairs on some of my old girls, but still was lots of fun learning the does and donts. If I do get it cleaned up I have a five minute window to take a pic before it gets on the road to messyville. Today I am helping the wife clean the basement which is a good cure for that Canadian disease called LACKANOOKIE LOL

There is an old saying that goes "an empty desk is the sign of an empty mind".

That saying goes for shops just the same.

I am a cabinet builder, and if my shop is not cleaned up, I cannot work. I have never seen a cabinet shop with a messy shop-just does not work!

You don't wanna see the floor in mine..... Matter of fact, I haven't seen it in a long looooong time..... Very seriously considering emptying the whole thing, hauling it to the dump, and starting over.......

t does get fustrating working in a meesy shop thats why i do keep it not to bad, I cant stand trying to fix something and spending more time looking for tools then fixing.

I have been considering the same thing. This winter had to do some sandblasting inside because it was to cold outside. The sand is in every nook and cranny, but i had to get the job done for the costomer. I have a big door at each end of the shop I might fire up the dozer and start pushing

I generaly TRY to keep my shop in at least walking around capable condition. Right now I'm building a carrier that will go on the 3 pt and carry 2 kids in bucket seats in the July 4th parade. Been promising them that I would one day. Now is the time. My wife came out to see the progress and feed a cat that has adopted us. She had to squeeze between a tractor tire and an open drawer with a bucket seat on it. Started to gripe about the conditions. I told her My shop, My space, go away. I don't see anything on the counter for dinner yet.

10+ on mine.....It'll be like going shopping when I start. Even thinking about getting a dumpster and having someone else do it so I don't feel I have to keep EVERYTHING.......

(quoted from post at 22:40:07 06/12/11) Messy shop! ha,..you haven't seen mine yet, hasn't been cleaned in 18 yrs.

snt that the truth, remember the saying <one mans junk is another mans treasure>

Spent six hours cleaning mine yesterday. Lot of stuff got tossed, three big garbage bags of trash go out to the road tomorrow and piles of stuff for recycling. Got all done, walked over to the overhead door to look back and see my clean shop. I really need to clean my shop one of these days.

nly a lazy man cleans and organizes his shop, because he is to lazy to look for his tools

What's this rumor I hear about you selling a 9N? Hey, to me that's like winning the lottery. Why don't you get a fergie T-O somethin' up there? I have too many. SO? Your sweet wonderful little bride is cleaning the cellar so you can play with trains again? Where do I get a girl like that? As for my shop, yeah, it took a couple minutes, but I got to the door, then got inside far enough to find tools for the chain saw...hey Lyle! did I ever tell you how much I hate pulling ropes to start things? Did I ever tell you how much I hate sharpening chain saws? did I ever tell you how much I hate chain saws? Insted of the chainsaw, if Canadians want to invent something really useful, why don't someone breed a moose that could p!$$ gasoline??? you don't have oak trees up there do you??? Man oh man Alberta is such a lucky place..... in summer....

very good Tony did not find any spelling mistakes! That room she is cleaning was originally going to be my train room, BUT she needs it more then i do i guess for the beatiful things that she might need some day.

Oooooh, tell her I think that is a bad idea Lyle. Saving stuff for when you might sorta need it maybe someday- never happens. When my barn burnt down, with my 9N, nice Allis, tools, buggies and sleighs, and sledges, all twisted metal, ashes and wood screws. And now the people acroos the river from me- worse. There are your bear's styrofoam cups and paper plates, plastic spoons etc etc people must have stuffed in the attic- for a party-someday, some one else found it 50 -60 miles away. got nearly a minivan van full of stuff to bring to the red cross this week, more to come. you guys got French in ya? Not from St Remi I hope? All my relatives.... yeah me too, have packrat in the DNA.... hey maybe we are relatives!!!!! Abiento cuzin

I try to 'clean' my dirt floored shop several times a year.In no time flat,it looks like a bomb exploded.it looks like that now,I can barely walk through it

ounds like all men are created equal!

Lyle,i know where i can find what i need cause i know where it might be hiding.
If i clean the shop,i'm afraid a part or such be in plain sight but i still think its under or behind this or that and if can't find it there i go beserk for sure.
I'm teetering on that edge allready.LOL

I got a nice dirt floor too.
i never have to mop up oil or antifreeze.(great time saver)LOL

find with age Im putting things down one minute and dont remember where i put it. maybe if my grammar was better i could write notes on my hand, but then i dont remember what i did with my pen!!

That all a matter of attitude.
I have build good looking coffee tables and beds and such in a small unused kitchen packed full of stuff by lack of a better suited room.

40 x 64 with 13 tractors, a car, 4 cub cadets, plus tools. Work? I have to work outside. Walk? My son asked me what happened to my bloody shins. I told him, every time I go in my shed for something I mash one. Sometimes when I can't quite find wnat I need I go in loft (full too) and look down. My problem? 1 1/2 shed's worth crammed into one shed. Ma says "No addin on, either", "You got too much sh!t".

guess you could take from this that a man with a clean TRACTOR shop must be lazy ,too darned lazy to fix tractor and too lazy to clean up after himself ,or if your like that rich farmer guy from yesterday you can take it to town to get it fixed ...

The bear strirred his coffee with your pen, then put it on your dash, now it is stuck way up front- by the alberta crack.

I have found three ways that to help me to maybe not keep my shop clean, but to extend periods between major cleanings. The first was putting my tools into a rolling tool chest so that replacing them during the job is slightly more likely. Second is strategically placed trash containers. One near the center of the main shop area and one near the work bench in the inner heated room. These enable me of course to eliminate trash as I go. or at least get it within just a few square feet area around the containers. Third is junk metal containers in two strategic locations so that as with regular trash I can toss it as I go.
