Make sure you take something to entertain the kids as there is absolutely nothing to do other than fish or go to the exhibit at the park(which will take about an hour). If you fish, be aware that snakes are everywhere, especially in the trees. I feel for you. There is no way I'd take kids to that place.

Lived about an hour away since 1944; truly awesome place. Eat at Boyette's and take the guided pontoon boat tour. Matt's right about there being nothing to do..........if you're into amusement parks, man-made attractions, etc. It ain't no DisneyWorld or Dollywood. The dealership is Jimmy Rice's; don't know him personally, but his Dad was a GOOD friend of mine.

I suppose you can still rent a "reelfoot boat" there and cruise around in the lake. I have enjoyed that. They are designed to go over logs, stumps, etc underneath the water. Of course somewhat slowly.

Reelfoot Lake was formed by the 1911 New Madrid earthquake. They say the Mississippi River ran backwards for a time during the earthquake and Reelfoot Lake (and some other depressions) was formed at the time. The quake was felt all the way to the East coast of the US. If Memphis had of been in existance at the time (which it was not), it would have been completely wiped out as the quake is believed to be one of the largest earthquake anywhere ever.

I live about an hour from there and other than the guided boat tour and fishing thats about it. It's a great place and gorgeous too but not alot of tourist attractions. As for old tractors and things, lots of folks in that area with them, Dyersburg even has a antique tractor club, Shadetree Tractor Club. If your around Thursday night we have a meeting in Dyersburg, come on by and visit. We eat, have a 15 minute official meeting and a 2 hour BS session :)

Send me an email and I'll see what else I can find do to around there.

Not a problem. I'll email ya some things around there. You are about 40 miles from Sikeston and Lambert's restaurant also. Take the Hickman Ky ferry and it's not far at all. Eating at Boyettes is a must do, And if there is a real thin older lady working the register tell her Jeff sent ya ( she's my Aunt.) :)

Typing error. I know and I ment to type 1811. Thanks for pointing that mistake out Tommy. Memphis was definitely thriving in 1911.

I was there on vacation, back in the early '70s. Had a good time seeing the sights.
One of the favorites sights was taking a ferry across the Mississippi on a highway that went from Portageville(?), Mo. over to Tiptonville, TN. & Reelfoot Lake.
There came up a bad storm as we were crossing on the ferry and it was kind of awesome (and scary). LOL

I've thought about going there again some day.
If that ferry is still running, your grandaughters would really enjoy that.
