6 volt batteries

A lot of recent discussion about powering up our vintage systems and what everybody is using and what"s working well and what"s not.

I have spent plenty of time around vintage tractors, but they were not vintage when I spent that time around them! It was 40 plus years ago.

My primary interest is old trucks nowadays and I am running Optima batteries in all my vehicles including my 6 volt positive ground 60 year old GMC trucks. I"ve had great luck with them and I"m wondering what everyone else is running. The Optima in my "51 GMC is now in its 10 year of service and it sleeps all winter. I went through 3 Sears DieHard 6 volts in the preceding 11 years of ownership so for me at least, the Optima is 3x as good as the DieHard and still going.

I have most of my farm(maybe 20 units) converted to Optima and Exide Orbital spiral AGM batteries.

The only one that has ever failed,(an Optima red top), did so at 16 years age.
The 3-4 Optima red tops are all 10+ years old in large and small farm equippment,+ farm cars and trucks / pickups.
The Exide orbital, (clone of an Optima red top) seems to be every bit as reliable and strong as the Optima.
I would guess that 3/4 of my spiral cell AGM batteries are the Exide orbitals, as they are avalible locally for around $20 less than an Optima red top.
I love the things, reliable, strong, no corrosion of terminals and battery box.
Pretty much an install it and forget it battery that will about last the life of the machine.
