John Deere R Pony Conversion??

Just looked at a 52 R it might be stuck and its missing the pony motor. Is there any good kits out there to convert an R to electric or try to find a good pony or run away??

Sounds like an expensive project. My brother did an R top to bottom that wasn't stuck and was complete and it cost him many many $$$$$$.

I'd probably run away, but I've done my share of challenges. I'd stick with a pony on the R. A 70, 720, or 730 I could go either way, but I think you'd want the pony on an R. If you decide to go for it, I can point you towards a salvage yard, that has an awful complete R they're parting out. The pony was still on it when I was there 2 months ago. I know nothing about it, and I'm in no way affiliated with them. We just pulled a couple parts off it for a buddy's R.

After looking at it I think it going to be one of those tuck tail and run. I was told the engine was rebuilt about 5 years ago. Then he takes me behind an old house where it has set out in the Iowa weather for over two years with no protection. I pulled the dipstick on the rearend no oil and stick is rusty! Something tells me the ol girl is stuck.

Those big, 2-cylinder diesels are awesome tractors. I've been around quite a few of them, and I really enjoy them, but if they need work, they're projects. It seems every piece is big and heavy, and everything you have to buy is expensive. With that said, I'd buy another one in heart beat, if the price was right, even if it was a project tractor.
