Flight 1549

Flight 1549 passing under bridge in Surry County, NC headed to Charlotte museum. Was a sight to see @12:15. 150 foot long truck and trailer that weighs 254,000 lbs.

I'll bet the truck driver was "puckered" coming down I-77 out of Virginia. I know what 80,000 feels like pushing on that highway.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Rick

They stopped at exit 14 in Virginia and did a load check before comning down the mountain. They got lucky there was no fog on the mountain. I live four miles from Fancy Gap. DH

Lets talk about puckering. I came down that way with a camper behind me in the worst rain storm I've ever been in. Couldn't see even with the wipers on high and too scared to pull over for fear of getting rear ended or worse. How you guys do it out there I can't imagine.

Where did you get your 254,000? The whole bird is only 90,000 plus of minus a hair when it is complete. I see half a plane there by weight.

Actually, the curves/banking are pretty good on that stretch of highway...its just l-o-n-g with only one short stretch to kinda/sorta halfway "catch your breath". If it weren't for slower traffic, I would feel safe coming down hill at 75 in loaded 18 wheeler...but the cops DO patrol and DO write tickets. We won't discuss just "how I know"!!

Rick...been outta the truck (retired) for 13 months, 2 days, and 3hrs.45minutes and do NOT miss it even a little bit.

I'll bet weightwise that airplane fuselage was a "puff" for that outfit. It's pretty big physically but not really very heavy. Most guys driving rigs that size know exactly how to handle loads 3-4 times as heavy as that load was....No Sweat!

I was wrong on the weight . I went to NC scales where truck was parked for the night and DOT officer said the total weight was 193.000 lbs. Don't trust everything you read on the internet. Daughter, Granddaughter, and woman who was on the plane when it went down. DH

It spent the night last night in Princeton,WV 25 miles from where I live. Big write up in local paper yesterday. Had a picture of it passing the capital in Charleston yesterday morning.
