battery drain

I have a 1948 Farmall c with 6 volt.It seems that the battery goes dead after sitting just a few weeks. I replaced the battery since I didn't know the age and still have the same problem. Any ideas on what's draining the battery?

A lot of the times it could be a bad cell in your battery . But since it did it with the old one & now with the new one , I'd say its the voltage regulator sticking . You could try tapping the VR with a small hammer to see if that helps . Maybe take the VR cover off & check for cob webbs across the circuits & excessive dirt . Clean it up internally before installing the cover .Also check the keyed switch & start button for shorts . Remove the battery cables & check for shorts , clean al ends shiny & brite , then smear dielectric grease on all connections .HTH ! God bless

Might try disconnecting a battery cable and waiting a couple of weeks. If it's ok, then the problem is on the tractor, if not then it's a bad battery. You may have to hook up a milliamp meter between a disconnected battery cable and the battery, then start looking for small current drains, bad cable insulation, etc.

It's not the model! our C sat all winter in our shed in N MN and last week I turned on the gas and it started right up, no charging, no Stabil, nothing! Mid Oct. to late May, and the 6 V battery is at least 3 years old! Our JD M started right up too but I had the charger on it's 9 year old 6 V battery.

if you have a test light.remove the positive battery cable and connect the test light between the positve post and the positive cable.if the light, lights, then you have a drain.disconnect the vr and if the light goes out,it is the problem.
