Farmall Cub

Working on a Farmall Cub for the first time. Question is do they run hotter then a tractor with a water pump. Flushed the block, head and radiator but still seems to run hot. Normal?

Yes they will tend to run hotter, probably in the 200 range, maybe alittle more if it is running a belly mower. They use a thermosyphon cooling system. Keep the radiator fins clean and make sure the fan belt is tensioned properly. If you are running antifreeze in the cooling system, premix it before filling the system, otherwise the antifreeze and water will just kinda sit there and not mix and won't cool properly.

I have a 1950 farmall C. Thought my temp guage was broken because it never moved off the lowest temp. Replaced the temp guage and the new guage almost never moves. My tractor doesn't have a water pump either.

Around 165 or so if the block and radiator are clean and the fan belt is tight enough. The thermo systems work well and have for more yrs that you are old.

Have a cub. Never ran hot. Fan punctured radiator, blocked several tubes. Still never ran hot. Fan punctured radiator again. Blocked some tubes to repair. Never ran hot. Tubes were like quarter inch round. Loosedned up and bought new radiator. Runs hot. Tubes in new rad are like car rad. Thin and flat. Wish I had old style rad again. Dave
