Memorial Day

Remember this Memorial Day... When you're eating your barbecue, smiling and laughing, that in another house somewhere, there is an empty chair where a hero should be sitting. They gave up their life so that you can sit with your family. So take a moment to think about those heroes who did not make it home and those who are still serving around the world...MAY GOD BLESS THEM ALL

Well put!!

Neatest thing I saw was several years ago, our church had a temporary pastor. At the end of each service on Memorial Day weekend, he announced that as he left the Sanctuary he would invite all who had worn the uniform of our country to follow him out ahead of the rest of the congregation and form a receiving line in the Narthex. He then asked the congregation to feel free to thank us veterans for our service.

It was awesome! There were handshakes, hugs, and a few tears. I got a big hug and kiss from a female classmate who wouldn't give me the time of day when we were in school.

One little old gray haired lady cracked me up. She asked me what branch of service. When I replied, "Marine Corps", she backed up a step or two, eyed me critically up and down, said, "You look like a Marine", and walked off. I haven't a clue who she was.

I'll have to suggest this to our current permanent pastoral staff if I can figure out how to do it without sounding self-serving.

Just tell him!Don't worry about being selfserveing-you've already served-him,me,everyone else. Thanks,Steve
