Saw these on the road today and had camera thought you might enjoy seeing them. Usually there are three or four loads one right behind the other. They are Michelins whatever they go on it must be huge.

How big of a tire iron?

I seem to recall seeing photos of large Cat dozers using the blade to push down on the sidewalls to break the bead loose. Maybe I just dreamed it though.

Looks like that load would be major top heavy.

What kind of tree are you hanging this tire swing from, a sequoia? LOL I've never seen them loaded like that, only on their sides on a flatbed like another post said.

We followed maybe 3 miles and it did look wobbly like it was top heavy.

Heading for a mine operation. We have a couple of used ones with the sidewall cut off and then set in concrete to make stock tanks out of. They work good for that.

I've seen them in use and being changed at the iron ore mines up in Ishpeming MI in the UP. I believe the rim is seperated into two parts to change them. no "bead breaking" as we know it. Ya ever get a chance to tour any of those mines it's worth it.

I've been through the Black Thunder Coal mine, which is one of, if not the largest mining operation in the world. They had something like 150 haul trucks that had 6 tires a piece like the ones pictures. The cost at that time was something near $50,000 per tire, and I'm guessing that price has gone up.

So why does a machine that big use rubber tires? Seems like they could find something better. For that matter cars have been using air filled tires for 120 years or so. Wonder why they haven't come up with something better.
