Stihl MS310

Question, will a Stihl MS310 pull a 24" bar ok in hardwoods like Oak? Dealer won"t give me a straight answer.

I took my ms310 from a 20"bar to 18" bar. Handles the 18" bar better. If i was going to a 24" bar i would use nothing smaller than ms 360.If you could find a good o36 Pro would be better yet.

yes it will but you'll be sorry unless it is just one cut that has to be done & you got time aplenty.

You might make it cut with a full skip chain, but you sure as heck couldn't lean on it and you probably wouldn't be happy using it. My MS650 with a 25" bar will stall right out with a full chisel chain in a big piece of white oak if I ask it for all it's got.

I guess I should have really asked WHY you want to run the 25" bar on that saw. If you're cutting giant butt culls that's one thing, but if it's a firewood saw and you're cutting smaller stuff it will work almost exactly the same as an 18" bar. I'm 6'2" and I get a backache using a 20" bar for cutting small firewood all day. A 24" or 25" bar is just about perfect.

I run a 24 on mine. Just so I don"t have to bend over to reach the little ones on the ground. Easier on the back as others have said.

And if you need an extra 4" to reach through a log it's there. So what if you have to hold it back a little. At least it will reach. On the smaller diameter the saw doesn't care if it 20" or 24" bar.

The only down side to a longer bar is the cost of replacement and more teeth to sharpen. But with more teeth you don't have to sharpen as often.

should work, might take some time at it though like others have said, i run a 18 inch on my 026 and no probs, and on both of my 028s i have 20 inchers, and they dont bog at all, all my chains are full chisel style too so they bite when they cut..so i dont c why a 310 wouldnt handle a 4 inch longer bar than my 028, cause the 310 is a bigger saw?

If you're burying the bar and leaning on it, you won't be happy with the performance.

Tall lanky guy limbing and cutting up small stuff, you'll love the extra reach.

The dealer won't give you a straight answer because they don't want to lose the sale, but on the other hand they don't want you coming back all pi$$ed off because the saw won't run the bar.

If you want cutting performance on a 24" bar in big wood you start with a MINIMUM 72 cc saw... so that puts you at the MS441.
If you just want a long bar to limb with... it may be OK but personally I think that's still a lot of chain for a small saw to drag around the loop.

I have a 20 inch on mine, and have cut some oak. It works ok, but you can tell it works it. I would think you want more hp.
