I don't know what to make of that. I've never seen anything like it and it looks pretty slick.

Thinking in terms of a Cletrac or an Allis H3 as tractors, if that were mine I think I might have some fun with it and tell folks its a high cropper.

What does it do, exactly? I could guess, but curious of the exact operation of it.

It was made to go down rows of tree's at a nursery. The frt. u-blade would bury about 3 ft. at the first tree and continue down the row, while each tree would be rolled into the chute and pop out the rear undamaged. The dozer would then return to the first tree and come in from the other direction and run the row. When done all the trees were cut in perfect balls. (no tree spades in those days) It had the capability of cutting out a large tree and carrying it (notice the hook on the u-blade)

I need that to grub mesqites. About rite size to get them 6/5 inch down sized ones.

Once upon a time I was a shop foreman at a nursery where we grew, dug and sold trees. We had 2 D4 Cats set up this way. The roller is set a little ahead of the U-blade to push the tree over before the blade undercuts it, there is a chute under the machine to guide the tree underneath with out tearing it up. It leaves the trees in a windrow where they are wrapped or sold as bare root trees.
Trees could be as tall as 16 feet.

Runs like it was new !! Just like a farmall !!!
If anyone is in the area (Bordentown N.J.)in the next 2 weeks... your more than welcome to take a drive on it before it heads up to Canada !!! I do believe it is the ony one in exsistance !!!

I saw a John Deere 40? crawler modified the same way at Expo in 2001. Must have been a good way to harvest trees.

In more modern days, there is a conveyor attachment which the trees ride up behind the dozer, and it shakes the dirt off the roots. Think giant potato digger, with a wagon attached. Then the trees are sorted for size and sold as bareroot.

I have a few pictures somewhere, I will post when I find them.
