Spread sheets, Tables, HTML

Yes, it's a tractor question..... I bought a whole lot of NOS gaskets and I want to go through and catalog them by part number, either with Word or on a spread sheet. But I would also like to post the information on my website. Can I transfer that info to a table or will I have to re-enter everything or what would be my best way to go? I can write HTML in note pad. Thanks

I would lean toward working with Excel then you can do sorts, searches, etc. (you can search with about anything, but excel is closer to an actual database construct.) It should not be difficult to make the spreadsheet into HTML once you have it looking like something. If you let excel do the work for you you should be able to end up with a list sorted by manufacturer as well as part number or description or whatever you decide works.

Good luck, I saw the pictures on your board, have never been able to log in over there so I just lurk.

Excel or OpenOffice work, but you can do it using Google's Docs thing just as easily. I've been using it for spreadsheet stuff lately and it works nice. You don't have to install anything, anyway.

I always like the KISS way of doing things (Keep It Simple Sir) .......

play around with excel and you'll prolly find you like it. Believe it also has an option to convert to html (???).

If you have a newer version of Excel, you can save your file as an HTML document. Another way is to save as an XML (eXtended Markup Language) file and create a separate XSL (eXensible Stylesheet Language) stylesheet to format the page. This has the advantage of keeping formatting separate from data, so you easily update your spreadsheet without editing your HTML.

This is a fairly common problem, so there are a lot of ways to do it. It depends a lot on the capabilities of your particular hosting software or hosting service.
