o/t Dodge Nitro 2.8 diesel

Here in Scotland the Dodge Niro 2.8 diesel is becoming avilable on the used market. I was thinking about a 2008 model and just wondered if this particular version is sold in the US. I would really appreciate any opinion or experiences anyone has had with them. Of particular interest would be reliability, MPG and perhaps towing ability. I recognise this may be a small engine capacity for you guys but not here in Scotland.

Boy! It sure would be nice tro have a small diesel over here! The dumb car companies don't seem to be able to get it right.... everything just gets bigger. Since fuel prices have climbed so much, I have been looking for a small truck, 4 cylinder but it seems that that is no longer available over here. We have 2 dodge trucks with diesel engines but they are 5.9 and 6.7 litre and all wheel drive so have poor fuel economy. I don't think the Nitro is available with a diesel here... too bad. I was in Norway a couple of years abck and saw the Jeep Cherokee with a diesel and thought that would be great but it is not available here.... again, wish it was. Nissan and Toyota used to offer small trucks here but no longer. They are as big as the Fords, Chevys or Dodges.

Fuel consumption is a major consideration for us, the nitro 4x4 available here is a 4 cylinder. They dont seem very powerful, I think about 170hp but can be chipped at low cost to about 220hp so that would be fine. By younger brother has a BMW X5 with 3.00 diesel does about 25 mpg and fairly fast (they are way out of my budget). My other brother recently bought a Jeep CR something or other, knocks out around 450hp but again out of my price range. At the moment I have Mitsubishi Showgun 2.5 sport with the diesel engine but this is very underpowered at around 110hp.

Don't blame it on the car companies. If the EPA would let them sell here, they would.

i have an old 83 ford ranger with the 2.2 madza diesel, didn"t go over good back then. non-turbo, not the fastest but it gets there. like to see what a 2.8 looks like. got any pictures of these diesel units over there.

I have one. the diesel was avaiable in the jeep liberty (same platform) in 05 and 06 in the usa. I have one and love it. 28 mpg average
