charging system

When I put my battery ( 1-12 volt instead of 2 6-volts ) back on my JD 630; my amp guage doesn't register when switch is on or the tractor is running. It doesn't even move to discharge when I turn on switch with the tractor is off. I had to put new battery cable ends on both cables ,so I assumed it is a negatively ground tractor. It's still has original generator so maybe it's positive ground?

You didn't look and take note of what cable went to where before you snipped the ends?Shame on you.Probably pos ground.Bet you fried the regulator.

I remember Dad said the generator was the same as a 1956 Chevy we had which was negative ground. I know this is NO great argument because generators, unlike alternators, can switch hit ground system with little or NO problems. We also always connected it negative ground.
