Sorry for the long post!!------A few days back, I posted about unwanted calls on my land line. I have been on DNC list for years and keep it up to date and I have an answer machine.
This month I have received 42 calls of which 26 were unwanted! I simply don't answer and then do a Google search for the number. I then file a complaint with DNC.
Over a period of three months I have filed three complaint for the same number!!
What has really got me Pi***d is that yesterday, I received a call that was LOCAL and came with the same message that has been recorded numerous times, with the option of pressing "1" to stop calls or "3" to speak to a rep. For the first time I pressed "3" and after 10 rings some S*B answered wanting to lower my interest rate :x
After I told him I had never paid a dime of interest he hung up.
There must be a reason I am receiving more the normal amount of calls but I don't know how to stop them.
I want to just drop the land line and use my cell but that will create other problems.

Fist thing I would do is get a credit report some one might be using your info. I got rid of my land line 15 years ago don't miss it. You almost have to have a cell phone why have both? Just my 2 ct.

26 in a month is annoying for sure, but I know people who get 20-
30 a day, so it could be worse. We get calls from one place that are
an automated voice and I cannot hang up on it and get a dial tone
till the spiel is over. I don't know how it works, but it is a nuisance.

That's what we did Dan. Got a third cell phone, had our land line number switched to it, and reduced our monthly bill nearly$35.00. Got this device called an X-link off the inner web that lets you hook you cell phone up and use all your original phones. Works off something called 'Bluetooth'. What's really neat is you can take your 'home' phone with when you go somewhere and are expecting a call.

Got one for "home improvments" siding, windows, etc.
I listened a few mins.,then replied,"our Lawyer told us once we went into forecloser,we couldn't do work on house"
Never been hung up that fast before!!!!

it is a system with in the system, they sell your number to other c-c companies if you have credit cards, they will try to sign you up for a new one with there company. just like home repairs, they look into the general records and see that you are a home owner, and "bam" calls start. i tell that i just rent, on cr crds, i'm filing bankruptcy. that stops them

I knew someone would say why do you almost need a cell. We live very far from town 26 miles.I don't want my wife or four kids(three girls) driving especially at winter without being able to call for help if something happens. With 6 people in our household you would be surprised how much cheaper the cell is versus the land line. I am not a phone person I might have 20 minutes a month on my cell.

Can I reduce the number of unsolicited credit and insurance offers I get?

If you decide that you don't want to receive prescreened offers of credit and insurance, you have two choices: You can opt out of receiving them for five years or opt out of receiving them permanently.

To opt out for five years: Call toll-free 1-888-5-OPT-OUT (1-888-567-8688) or visit www.optoutprescreen.com. The phone number and website are operated by the major consumer reporting companies.

To opt out permanently: You may begin the permanent Opt-Out process online at www.optoutprescreeen.com. To complete your request, you must return the signed Permanent Opt-Out Election form, which will be provided after you initiate your online request.

When you call or visit the website, you'll be asked to provide certain personal information, including your home telephone number, name, Social Security number, and date of birth. The information you provide is confidential and will be used only to process your request to opt out.

If you don't have access to the Internet, you may send a written request to permanently opt out to each of the major consumer reporting companies. Make sure your request includes your home telephone number, name, Social Security number, and date of birth.

The problem I have with this option is--
(1) It takes [b:e84247fc96]60 DAYS [/b:e84247fc96]for it to start.
(2) It doesn't stop all prescreened calls.
(3) My SS card has [b:e84247fc96]"will not be used for identification"[/b:e84247fc96] written on it.
Why do they need my SS number
I guess I will just have to drop my land line and wait till the day (coming soon) that they call our cell phones the same way!
