Plowed the garden with the 1948 Farmall C and the John Deere Model 44 Two-Bottom Plow this last weekend. It was the first time plowing for me and eventually I will get good at it. It sure was a lot of fun and the tractor recieved a good workout! Now I will disk it and get it ready to plant some green beans and some other things.

Enjoy the pictures!

ANDREW...glad you had fun and that job sure looked quite nice.

Now...my RANT...keep that loader bucket DOWN below hood level. Doing so will help greatly to keep your center of gravity down lower...and that is/can be a safety factor. PLEASE keep it down!!

RICK...Farmall Super C was the first tractor I ever drove.

I think you did a better job than some guys with fancy new equipment! You went rather straight and the all turf is in the furrow. Some people need this size lot just to adjust the levers. It is a job to get it to start in huh? And turn around every time. Too bad you don't have a super C, you could look for a mounted plow, save you alot of maneuvering. And to keep the furrows straight with a trike is not easy, and being a trike, like our friend said, keep the bucket low, if it was me, I would plow straight to that hedgerow out yonder... room to get them to sink and keep you from having to turn so often, and promise a year's worth of string beans to whoever don't like that idea... good job!!

Plowing is a learning curve. the more you do it, the better you get. 2 basics: get the mildboards shined up, maybe use a wire wheel on an angle grinder to clean them up before hand and coat them with something after use to keep them from rusting. I use auto body undercoating, some use spray chrome. And try to keep the plow running level (side to side) when in the ground. lotsa luck

i had my land for 20 years and always threaten to do something with it finally last fall i bought that 1105 massey and a 4 bottom plow got an old buddy to get me started and away i went i was hooked after that i could not wait for daylight i was plowing at 3 in the morning then i rented another 85 acres so i could plow it up

That ground should grow some nice veggies. I usually make several passes across the ends . Hal
PS: I would shine up those moldboards and either sheltered it or coat them with grease. The plow on this garden tractor is 75 years old and I've had it since 1960.

Never use a grinding wheel or wire brush on a plow to remove rust/ They will cut groves and scratched in the moldboard and it will no doubt never get a good scoure. Use a rust remover and work some sandy ground to get it to scoure and then keep it greased when not in use.

looks pretty good to me for any first timer!one thing that will help on the ends is to make a couple of passes cross ways(headlands).sort of watch where your plow and rear tractor tire is in relation to ends(such as when tire starts out of second furrow you need to drop plow)that will keep your ends straight and your plow will be at proper depth all the way across garden instead of shallower at ends.will take a long time probably to shine up bottoms if thats all you plow, but one thing that will help is to make a couple of passes, and then clean dirt thats stuck to them off,and make a couple more.a pain getting on and off tractor but it will help shine them up faster. There is a paint used just for keeping bottoms from rusting, but everyone I know just uses primer paint.LOOKING GOOD!

Looks like your tires could use a bit of air, but other than that a good looking plow. Clean up the shares so you can get it to scour and that'll help too. The old "Operation and Care of Farm Machinery" books had lots of info on hitching and using plows. Plowing with a clutch lift plow takes a bit of getting used to, but if that's your first time plowing you did great! If you were in a 10 acre field no one would even notice things that stand out like a sore thumb in a little garden plot. Maybe you can get in some practice somewhere before next year. Good job.

nice job! I see you uses the farmall instead of your JD S !! i knew you were a smart lad! If you had a Ford tractor in your collection you would use that ! lol
