Anyone else on here have honey bees? We let a family friend store his hives on our property and we get a portion of the honey that is harvested. This is the second year for the bees. We had 5 hives last year, but only three made it to this year. Our family purchased a package of honeybees this year and here are pictures of our hive. I am the one standing behind the hive and the other guy is the beekeeper. Learning all about being a beekeeper and it sure is a lot of fun. We have a total of six hives on our property this year. The beekeeper owners three of them, and he helps take care of three others that other people have purchased, ours included.

Hopefully we get a good crop of honey this year. Last year we got 130 lbs. of honey from the five hives.

Enjoy the pictures!

ANDREW...Thanks for pictures. I remember writing a "paper" about honey bees 40+ years ago while in school...they sure are fascinating creatures. My Dad messed with bees some and kinda/sorta introduced me. I was just a small lad then and had to pump the smoker for him while he robbed the hive.

Many years ago as in before you where born I did Bees. Due to an accident I can no long do them but yes they are neat and I wish I could still play with them. Do you know what the one of few thing that will never go bad is?? I till have lot of bee keeping stuff I just can not do bees any more unless I want to spend a night in the hospital that is

We have some honey that is over 50 yrs old-it is still good!a little sugary Susan's uncle had bees on the family ranch(8000ft altitude)Gunnison,Co.Hi-altitude honey!

nothing like a hive of bees, a real learning experience,...mess with them long enough and you'll tie something around your pants legs above the shoe...LOL

just how does one get started...? iam interested have the time and property just no knowledge of bee keeping have been interest for many years ever since my parents good friend had bees in indiana and we went there for visits

I had 10 hives, and we sold "Cut Comb" honey at
farmers markets.
I was harvesting honey one early October day and
forgot to tie my pants legs. I was brushing bees
to the ground with a very soft "Bee Brush", and
they started climbing up inside my pants legs.
I had "About" 60 stings, spent the night in the
hospital...now i"m allergic to bees and have to
carry a "Bee Sting Emergency Kit"

It is simple to get rid of the sugar problem. Just heat it up say in water and the sugar will melt and turn back into honey. They found honey in the tombs in Egypt and it was still good and a thousand plus years old to boot

You might try doing a Google search for Sioux Bee Supply company out of Sioux City IA. They where at one time the largest company to supply bee keepers with products and info on how to take care of bees

This is called a top bar hive. Been doing a litte experimenting with raising bees using this type of hive. If you do a web search you will find all kinds of info on the subject.
