OT--Big Time--Septic Tank Riser

I have not had a problem with my septec tank in the two years I have lived in this 20 year old home. However, I don't like the looks of this setup. In the third and last photo, the tank cover can be seen on the left and the sanitary "T" is open to the top.
Do I need to make further inspection or just leave it alone since it is not giving a problem?
I have worked on and installed septic tanks and I have never seen anything like this???

Looks to me almost exactly like I did at our church last year on the grease trap. The baffles were gone so it was a straight flow through. So I made baffles out of PVC like you have pictured, and extended them out to where you can see them looking down through the opening. I still have a concrete cover however, and I would not feel safe with that little poly cap that you have. I would want a real cover.

If it stops up you will know immediately if its clogged upstream or downstream of the tee. Someone must of had some problem with the line plugging and wanted easy access to the cleanout or maybe there is not enough vent inside the house and was causing a smell.

as long as thats the line coming from house it is fine...the TEE allows it to vent air in line...i've see TEE's on field line side give trouble when solids get inside.
both should have about a foot or less pipe sticking down into slurry.

It just looks to me like someone removed part of the cover and installed the riser. I am concerned that the area around the "T" is dirt that has fallen into tank--at least that's what it looks like. This would definately be WRONG and would need to be addressed. I just don't know what is holding up the dirt around the riser???

Hello Jiles,
That looks like a clean out access. Glade to hear all is well.
You should have one cleanout between the house and the tank.
You should also have another pipe coming up before the tank as a vent. There should also be an access on top of the tank next to the manhole, to plung the tank inlet from the house, if it becomes clogged.
There should be also a T coming up at the discharge side of the tank, going to the (DISTRIBUTION) or D box.
I have some pictures of a system, if you like, I can post them for you.
Guido.

I don't see why you would need a vent next to the tank inlet. That pipe should not be full, ever, and it would vent thru the house's DWV system.

Jiles the tee is installed correctly. On newer installations they want a tee like that on the inlet and outlet. In normal usage the waste water come in and goes down the bottom of the tee just like it would on and elbow. Also on the out let the tee keeps any solids from going directly out to the leach field. If anything gets pluged the waste water can go through the top of the tee.

Now the plastic pipe used for the riser is okay too IF it is sealed at the top of the septic tank. If it is sealed there then who ever installed it made it easy to clean out the tank when needed. They could have made a hole in the big lid and cemented around the pipe on the outside. If it is bothering you just dig down around it by hand and check it out.

Hello big fred,
All of the system inmy area have that setup.
I don't know why, the house vents as you say should suffice.

Looks like a 2 foot concrete tile would fit over the plastic and the use a concrete lid.A gasket would keep any stink from getting out.Top the whole thing off with a well house. They are used for decoration here.A small wooden pail with a Geranium in it hanging from the crank rope looks nice.
