hi im trying to remove the pto and hydraulic pump from the rear of my allis chalmers c and the shaft is stuck inside. how do i get this out to flat back the tractor. or should i just cut the shaft and let leave it in there. any help??? Much appreciated.

It should slide right out with out a problem. You might try putting the tractor in gear and then try to turn the PTO shaft back wards a bit with a pipe wrench etc. You may have a worn area on the spline coupler that is hanging up

What part is stuck? The shaft from the transmission or the PTO. How far back are you trying to flat back it? There is a gear inside the PTO/hydraulic housing that needs to come off to remove the PTO shaft. You have to take the whole housing off to remove it. Some Allis Bs and Cs had a PTO delete plate that had a nose for the extra length of the transmission shaft; they come up on ebay every once in a while. If you want to leave the PTO/hydraulic housing, first remove it, then remove the pto and hydraulics, then make you delete plates and put the housing back on.

its the shaft coming from the transmission. i want to flat back it with the whole PTO removed. ive seen a picture of the flat back with the cone but theres no other special way to pull that shaft? and that pto with the hydraulic pump is getting sold if anyone wants it.

If you want it flat you would have to cut the shaft off shy of flush. The front part has to be there for it to work. Other than that you have to use the cone cover. Nothing would be lost to cut the shaft off except to never be able to have a power take off added without replacing the shaft.

This is what you have on the front part of the shaft. it also attaches to the drive shaft. Kinda hard to do away with.

Any questions answered with these pictures?

Different transmissions taken at different times over the years.

If I missed the meaning of your posts and your just trying to remove the housing you need to push the handle down after it starts to split and lift the back slightly as you twist to the right slightly as you pull back. I call it holding your mouth just right.

so have you done this before with cutting the shaft because im thinking thats my best route or making a plate drilling a hole in it and putting a pipe on it to make room for the shaft. will cutting it hurt anything. i dont plan on ever putting the pto back on because its on its way to being a pulling tractor.
