Ford 6600 Issues?

Wondering if there"s anyone on here who can tell me what kind of reliability the Ford 6600"s had. Looking for a tractor slightly bigger than my 5000, but I"m scared that something else won't have the same bulletproof reliability of the 5000. Thanks!

27 years ago a neighbor taught me how to drive his 6600, as a young teenager I managed to have a few mishaps with fences, creeks, etc. Since then he has added a front end loader and still uses it today.

Do you have an early (233 c.i.) or late (256 c.i.) 5000? The 6600 was a direct replacement for the late 5000 - 256 engine, rated about 3 h.p. more, at 70 h.p. Think of it as a 5000 with improved hydraulics and a few other updates. They are tough!

There's really not much difference between a late 5000 and an early 6600 other than the improved hydraulic flow on the 6600. Otherwise they're the same weight, roughly the same power, same engine, same transmission, same PTO... and yes... they are bulletproof. Just watch the coolant condition. Change it every few years or really keep the additive up in shape... if you don't you can expect cavitation erosion/pinholing in the block.

Thanks so much everyone! so glad to here about it. Sunds like it might be the unit for me, mine is one of the later model 5000's, glad to here it's built along the same lines.
