Difference in Case-IH's! 5250 vs. 7210

I know the Nebraska Test info on both. Know the HP's, & weights. Which one is easier to service? Any known problems with the 5250 over the 7210. I had a 7220: So I have familiarity with that series. Have a relative that is thinking about a 5250 built in Germany, & thats where my concern lies. I have a JD 3055 built in Germany. Its not nearly as good as the US built JD;s.

No personal experience, but the Maxxum was every bit as bullet proof as the Magnum, McCormick is/was still building the CaseIH design with perkins power.

Maxxum/Magnum are two different class of tractors, not an apple/apple comparison, depends on what you want to use them for.

speaking from experience, (i have a 5240, and used to drive a 7240 in the UK)i have no problem with the german built machine, like everything else how you use it makes more difference. In Europe the german built JD have a great reliablity record, having said that, back in the UK i would touch a New Holland if you gave it to me, a lot seem to spend more time apart than running, this side of the pond they seem OK.

Worst thing service wise on a 5200 series is cleaning rads, the oil cooler and air con rad "swing" out of the way, only they don't cause the air filter box and some frame components are in the way!

Lots of 5250s handling far more power than they were designed for, i know of 2 that are putting out 150 hp at the shaft and both have over 11000 hours on ith no major work...

It depends on your intended usage. If you are going to do heavy tillage I would go with the 7220. If you are going to use it for a general chore tractor then the 5250 is a little shorter wheel base. I personally like the 7220 to work on better. The 5250 is a little more compact and it is a little harder to get to things but it is a smaller tractor. It also seems that the resale of the 7220 is holding a little better than the 5250. So the 5250 is a little bit cheaper for the same hours.
