My New Gooseneck Trailer (PICS)

Went to the State of Nebraska Surplus auction that they hold every year and purchased this 1989 Hornung Gooseneck Trailer. It is 16 Foot long and about 70 inches wide.

Hornung is the manufacturer, out of Chadron, Nebraska. This trailer was build by my great grandfather and his son Jimmy Hornung, my great uncle. I was always told that they built very good trailers. It is very cool to find one of their trailers and I know that it will last me along time. They were known for building trailers very well.

Payed $2400 for it. The deck is good and the tires have a lot of tread on them yet.

Once I get a truck equipped with a gooseneck ball setup, I will use it to haul cars, tractors and implements.

What do you think?

Thanks for reading!

Nice looking trailer, but curious that its so narrow. Most are built 8 feet wide (96").

Those look like "drive-over" fenders- always liked those, because you can get the trailer lower and still be able to use the full width of the deck.

Price sounded about right.

I would think that if you went to the trouble of getting set up for a goose neck trailer you would want one longer than 16 foot. Youre only gonna haul about one thing at a time with it.

Nice trailer. When I made a hitch for my truck, I welded a piece of 4 inch channel between the frame rails. I have to crawl underneath the truck to take off the ball. If I did it again, I would weld a nut to the channel before I weld it to the frame. Just a suggestion.

While you may eventually want/need/get a longer trailer, you will always have a special attachment for this one due to the "family connection". Use it with pride and enjoyment!!

Well......my brother just bought a full 8 foot wide by 40 feet with a beavertail and ramps, has one broken spindle and needs new deck boards, but in general a nice looking gooseneck trailer,1988 I think he said it was. He bought it for $1000.

yes, wondering about the narrowness also.its when a person buys something that he finds out the bugs in it.

Nice trailer. In my opinion, you have a very handy-sized piece of machinery. I will admit that it will have it's limits, but, from your previous posts, it will work just fine for most of the "treasures" you come across. The biggest treasure is the family connection. Also you will come closer to taking a 16' trailer with you to 'just look' at something than if you had to drag a 30' monster around. good purchase and enjoy it for years to come. Dale

I do too, I will have to get an exact measurement to find out how wide it is. I will bring it home sometime this next week.

If I came home with that the wife would know that there would be more things to follow.I'd better have a good story before I got home.
