Case 870 up and died??? on the planter.

In addition to the mystery issue on the 806, now my planting tractor takes a dump. It's a gas, was running decent, planting along at about 5.3 mph, all of a sudden she hiccup'd, coughed, and quit. Cant get her started. It appears like when I crank the engine over it is causing coolant to come out the puke tube up by the radiator cap. Blown head gasket? She did seem to be losing a little power, but was hard to tell as I had just refilled the fert hoppers. Frustrating, just had the hyd and pto all rebuilt. So frustrated with my tractors this year.

I wouldn't think a hiccup, cough and then dying would be related to puking water out the overflow. Maybe coil/condenser? Does it have a fuel pump to go bad?.

Sometimes we do have a frustrating planting season, sometimes not. This spring has about driven me to drink with all the problems, both expensive and not expensive that have come up.

Good luck 'gettin er goin'. Jim

Well, I was having issues where she would start losing power, it didnt want to hold rated rpm, and down shifting didnt really help. Now that I have had time to reflect I guess it did start getting poppy, sputtery, and even back fird a few times during one of its "episodes" just a few minutes prior to just quiting. if weather clears up I will have to check fuel pressure, spark and what not. I am assuming I cant get a fuel pump if that is the issue, will have to go electric maybe. Just have a bad feeling!

Fuel pump should be no big problem to replace on a gasser. Easy to check, take the line loose between carb and pump and turn engine over. If no fuel=bad pump, if there is fuel in tank.

Take line off at fuel pump coming from tank and if fuel in tank is higher than pump, fuel should flow. Do this first.

Go Get A Electric Pump ! My Brother did his ,It Ran Better than it had in along time. The Other Place to Check is ? There any GAS in the Tank ?

Check for spark first. New points and condenser don't cost much. Does it still push coolant out cranking when cold? As the points wear, the timing becomes late. Late timing will make the engine work harder, run hotter, and use more fuel.
