Well got a call this morning from O'Reilly's and said all 3 heads I brought in to them where bad so now I have to find another head for this 292. Took 3 tries to get the correct rings and got them yesterday and I did one piston last night. Would have done more but I was beat and my back and legs where killing me. Oh well now I get to call the salvage yards and see if any body has a 292 Chev head

292 was a stroked 250- about 4 inch stroke. heads should be same bore and valve size, manifold openings. I could be wrong though. RN

Nope, its the block that is taller. the 2 lifter covers are wider on the 292 than 250.this shows how much taller the block is. definitly need 292 pushrods.

Don't know where you are located but if you are in the Southern IN area cally Berry's Automative machine shop in Freelandville, In (near Vincennes). They should be able to fix you up with a good head.

They had a lot of trouble with those heads, Grandpas 76 with a 250 has had three put on it.

I believe I would go get my 3 heads and take them to a different shop somewhere. You will probably be surprised. There is probably nothing wrong with yours, they are just trying to wear you down thinking they will sell you one of their rebuilt ones for 400 dollars instead of fixing yours.
