I couldnt get an answer on the Dodge Forum Boards as I expected, so thought Id give you gents a crack at this.

NEWBIE HERE, excuse my ignorance. Okay, I just acquired this 99 Dakota SLT 3.9 V6 with 4 Wheel ABS. The cruise didnt work but the Brake light was on until I jacked with the parking brake pedal lifting it so the Brake light went out THEN THE CRUISE WORKED FINE. Today the cruise stopped working and I noticed the Tach wasnt working either, but I cant recall if it was working when the cruise was also working (just got the truck remember). I suspect the tach not working is also causing the cruise to not work but I just dont know. The horn (clock spring okay) and turn signals and lights and gauges are working its just the Tach and Cruise that arent other then I got gas today but when I restarted the truck the gauge showed empty until I shut the truck off and restarted it at which time the gauge correctly showed full and cruise worked then at least, but im unsure if the tach was working then or not??? But its NOT now grrrrrrrrrrr FWIW THE "CRUISE" LIGHT IN THE DASH DOES COME ON WHEN CRUISE ON/OFF IS SWITCHED ON

FINALLY, QUESTIONS

Does tach not working make cruise not work?? Any tips on fixing the tach other then take it to my mechanic with his Snap On Diagnostics???

EXTRA BONUS QUESTION LOL

It has a Tekonsha Voyager Electric Brake Controller that has a good black hot wire to it,,,,,,,,a good white ground,,,,,,and a good signal on red when brake pedal is depressed buttttttttttt when I press the brake pedal or depress the manual slider switch on controller the little white light on the Tekonsha dont come one SHOULD IT??? Maybe I just need to hook my electric brake equipped trailer to it n see if it works and/or the little light comes on, maybe it needs to see the trailer brake circuit to work???

Dern Dodge grrrrrrrr lol Im a Chevy man but Dakota is the ONLY 4X4 rated to tow with all 4 down when I head to Florida with my Golf Cart in the bed.

The tach/cruise/fuel gauge problem sounds electrical. I had a GMC dump truck with goofy acting gauges due to electronics. As to the brake controller, I've seen the light work 3 different ways on different trucks. 1)The light comes on with trailer pluged up and brakes on. 2)The light stays on with the trailer plugged up, whether brakes on or off. 3)The light comes on when brakes are on, whether trailer is plugged in or not.

I had a 94 doing that. One time while going down the busiest street in town it just died. Had it towed home and it ran fine again. The cruise and tach never came back. I ended up putting a new computer in it and it never bothered again.

John, Have had Voyager for quite a few years, on mine the light only comes on to verify a correct trailer connection, ie.: no trailer-no light. Tekonsha website should have more info. As to other-sounds almost like intermittent in harness, Dodge has had somewhat a problem with connectors/corrosion/loose pins/poor grounds, etc. Good luck with it.

True BUT I like ALLLLLLL those gizmos n gadgets to work and Im NOT a happy camper until they do, you know how I am with my RV, its even worse with my PickemUp.

I'll see you in January 2012 Pilgrim
