Speaking of popcorn . . . .

The microwavable bags of popcorn have the calories listed for the unpopped corn. Any body try to eat the unpopped corn? Then why is it on there?

Why would the calories be any different if you pop it? You're not adding anything (unless they don't count the butter-like stuff that's in there).

Why is it on there? It is on there because some dimwit in the food and drug administration knew his yearly evaluation was coming up. When his boss asked him what he had done to justify his job, he said he wrote the regulations that required all nutritional values be posted on microwavable foods so the american people would know what they were buying. And his boss said "that's outstanding, here, I will give you a $10,000 a year raise for performing that job that gives that valuable information to the buying public". And that is why it is there.

Good question. Only thing I can think is that a variable number of the kernels don"t pop, and people presumably don"t eat those. So, they can accurately tell you how many calories are in the unpopped corn. But they can"t say for sure how many calories are in the unknown amount of corn that will successfully pop and you can eat. Just a theory.

The number of calories in popped popcorn is the same by weight as it is in the unpopped kernels. But it's the crap you add to it, either by using oil to pop or adding butter to the popped corn, that raises the calories.
