Fox den under my deck

This afternoon I notice a family of foxes has taken up residence under my deck. The litter is now the size of an adult cat. What are the concerns about these animals with respect to household pets, cats and small dog.

Also, best ideas for getting them to move along to somewhere else.

I'd call Animal Control (if you have one) and ask them to relocate the foxes to an appororiate location (deep woods).

Might call your Vet. for suggestions if you strike out with Animal Control.

Concerns: They may carry rabies.

Don't know any non violent ways of getting rid of them. Putting mothballs under there might work. Maybe cranking up the push mower and letting it sit under the edge of the porch, not long enough to kill them, just to discourage them.

Here is my suggestion;

1. Dig hole big enough for all

2. Get gun (any caliber will work on a fox I think)

3. shoot them, bury them.

You might try human urine.Supposed to work on other wild animals. How about getting one of those ,shake the house, speaker systems. You know, the kind you can feel from a block away. That would drive me out, for sure.

How much time do you spend at home that a family of wild animals has taken up residence and you just now notice it when they are half grown? I wouldn't worry about it. They'll move on soon enough when momma weans them and starts taking them hunting.

If it is a red fox, they only weigh less than 20 pounds full grown. They will not eat your cats or small dogs. a small dor or cat will chase the fox away. They eat mice, insects and bird eags or small birds if they can ketch them. We always have one litter a year around our farm. I enjoy them playing. Only concern would be Rabies but ani,al control can give you a bait fore this. If you are concerned, then call ani,al control to moce them. Do not shoot. They cause no harm

It seems they have adapted to the threat of coyotes who almost wiped them out around here by moving close to humans to have their young. They will move out when the young get big enough to hunt. Other than the possibility of rabies which is likely not that high, they pose no real threat. They will run away from you not at you. They are more interested in mice and birds than your pets. Your pet food if accessible might be another story.

My neighbor saw a fox carry off a cat .I shot one that had a good sized chicken in his mouth.I met 2 that were rabid. They had no fear of us.Animal control only handles domestic animals here.My friend lost a lot of chickens to foxes.

Someone forgot to tell that to the red fox I just shot in my chicken yard this afternoon!!!
He only killed one hen but won't do it again.

I presume they are the English import for the enjoyment of the Gentry, if so put a tube from the exhaust of your car and get rid of them..If you leave them say goodbye to your cat and small dog. They are the sheep farmer's nightmare because they kill his lambs also your Geese, Ducks,& Fowls .

Here they pay dammages every year for damages to livestalk they have killed and the money comes out of the dog tag fee. Chickens and sheep the animals most likely to br killed but most likely to be raised out in the open, think they paid for some calves as well. Open season at all times on them and they used to pay a bounty on any fox killed and brought in.

So this isn't a Jeff Foxworthy joke?

Have you tried putting a portable radio under your deck and just leave it on for a few days? Nothing loud but just enough to keep those sensitive ears busy and annoyed. Just a thought.
