This morning my boss came into the shop at 8:15 (we start at 8) I was going through the list with my crew of things I wanted done. He came in wanting to know why we were not working and to get our butts out there and stormed off. Tonight at the park board meeting the park board put me and another supervisor in charge and are now over him. I wonder if he likes to rake leaves.

Matt
carefull how you treat him
He can't retaliate against you now and the temptation will be to ride him hard.
HOWEVER you will be watched very closly by others and your actions will be discussed by the board in private.
SO be the proper boss and treat him fairly without cutting him any more or less slack than any one else on your crew
Ron

That is my plan, I won't treat him much different. However there are a few locks I wouldn't mind changing.

I am referring to vacuuming leaves in a windstorm/ thunderstorm like he has made us do in the past and other poor managment things I am going to override. When I talked to the park board last night after the meeting those are the reason they put us in command, that and to test us to see what we can get done and to unlock "doors" he kept locked.

Now comes the test of character... You can make him look like an idiot and dog him out, which will make you look pretty childish, or you can show that you're the better man and treat him with respect. Nothing wrong with calling him aside and respectfully handing him a broom, but you can bett your a$$ that you'll have folks watching how you handle the situation.

Good Luck,

Dave

I suspect the plan is to make him leave sooner.

Guess you've got some backing then.

Or they could just be using you to get what they want. Then they can cast you aside.

Just kidding, I honestly believe the first line.

Had a situation arise like that about twenty years ago where the boss wound up workin' for me. It can offer some rewarding opportunities.

In a public meeting, on record, the park board president asked me "what is that on your face?"

If he works anything like our park guys the rake will have a bow in it from being leaned on. Or you will be calling out the loader to get the tractor out of the Ditch. "i was just trying ot blow the leaves into the woods and it started to slide. I thought i could get it out on my own." Oh the stories i have. LOL

Normally if something is stuck...its because of me. My guys aren't too bad, there were some before them that were rake leaners. I have weeded most of them out.

Ya here we just had a guy tear the door off our brand new new holland mower. He was riding around with the door open while cutting grass and backed up caught a tree branch and 1000 dollars later new door. We also have a good group.

Not that i know of. Ya stuff does happen. I say dont hide it jus tcome clean. It will be easier on you and me. Reminds me of a couple of years ago. School district was doing work on there parking lots. So the kids were parking in the park lots. Kid came out after school to find his car gone called the cops all mad about his car being stolen from our park. One of the guys points at some tracks in the grass leading to the lake. Yep guess the kid didnt put his standard in neutral. Took like 6 hrs to fish his parents new car out of the lake.
