I have tried looking online for the statutes relating to farm trailers but can't seem to find them. Does anyone know what the gross weight limit is on farm trailers with the FT plates before they need the inspection sticker?? Is it anything licensed over 10k pounds?
The trailer in question is a gooseneck flatbed with a gravity box mounted on it.

That is my understanding also. Beans have all been hauled in. SMV on back of trailer and stay under 25mph and plead ignorance if I get pulled over. No different than guys pulling 2 gravity boxes without brakes behind their pickups. At least I have brakes and lights. |

If you are over 10k gross weight then yes, you need to have an inspection, and trailer license for the trailers weight rating, if you are pulling it with a licensed vehicle. However if you are pulling with a tractor (off road vehicle than you do not.) We used to pull hopper bottoms with a tractor and a dolly setup before we went to OTR tractors.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeThe manual here in NH has all that info in it as well. I believe that all the states probably want the facts out there, and there is too much to put on billboards and TV time would drive our taxes up a lot. Probably the best they can do is the book that they will give you free of charge for the asking. I bet that they would even mail it to you.

I agree with Snoop-nc. Those questions are answered best at your State office. And ask who your talking to.

don"t know about your state, here in Colo, unless you have it all equipt to look like a business trailer, they usually dont bother you unless you are hauling a lot heavy stuff, pipe/oil equipt/etc...also if the truck pulling isn"t bigger than 1-ton, can get away with out permits...i haul my tractors to shows/pulls never stop at ports..haven"t been chased down so far...

One ton duallys with dual axle flat trailers have become the target for most states, I am sure it will come in CO evenually. The reason they have become the target is the very reason many people have bought them; trying to skirt DOT laws. The problem is this. The laws are there to protect others. An overweight rig that may not stop or is dangerous does not know if it has "farm tags" or all DOT permits. So the "bears" are going to be checking to see what is really going on.
