iowafarmer20 07-18-2011 16:52:58 69.97.84.153 Report to Moderator	looking at purchasing two brent 744 gravity wagons. when talking to my neighbor about this he said the the DOT wouldnt allow these for hauling grain to town to my local co-op. said that they exceed the weight limit, but ive never heard of a weight limit for wagons. if anyone has some info please let me kno or what they suggest. The road I live on says 10,000lbs limit. Find a modern tillage tractor that weighs less...What a laugh! Way down the road is a bridge that says 5 ton limit! Now we have a problem!!! So your wagon would be legal. I saw a Ford pickup pulling two of them. Somebody should have given him a ticket! Weight limit in Iowa is 24,000 lbs per axle. The weigth of the wagon is 7300 lbs so if you fill them clear up you will be over, but you can easily put 720 bushels of dry corn in them without going over. You can overload to your heart's content during harvest season, since the limit then is 28,000 lbs per axle. The are 9' 6" wide, so again no big issue when pulled by a tractor. BTW, Most of Europe hauls all of their farm products with tractors in order to get around overly restrictive truck license requirements.   [Reply]  [No Email]

Don't take my word for it however. Do a google search for "Iowa D.O.T.". The web site IS a government run website, and is set up by government type folks, therefore the whole thing is quite convoluted and confusing, but if you take the time and poke around, you will eventually find what you want to know. Most of the information on that website is wide open to interpretation, and you will probably not interpret it the same as a D.O.T. officer does, but each officer will not interpret it the same either.   [Reply]  [No Email]
