At all costs - avoid Interstate 80 thru Hazelton & Sugarloaf, PA.

I drove 1000 miles roundtrip a few days ago to fight (3) tickets issued by local law (not state troopers) patrolling from the median on I-80.

I was stopped for no reason & spent 1.5 hours behind a truck stop while my pick up truck & EMPTY trailer were searched for drugs last month.

No probable cause - clearly unlawful detention.

The (3) tickets (safety violations) were BS and the officers did not even bother coming to court......

The tickets were dismissed but I gave the judge a piece of my mind just the same ...

I won't post any further specifics but AVOID this section of I-80 thru eastern Pennsylvania unless you want to run the risk of being harrassed - ticketed - greatly inconvencienced (to say the least) in having to return for a court date ....

It is all a racket to generate revenue, I would not put it past law 'enforcement' to start issuing tickets even though you are 2 or 3 MPH UNDER the speed limit, after all, it is your word against theirs, and we all know who will be believed if you contest the ticket, and money is tight.

Law 'enforcement' are trained and encouraged to perjure themselves, and will do it at the drop of a hat.

Law 'enforcement' IS NOT your friend.

Scooby Doo
I have had some experience in law enforcement, both city & county departments. Mostly depends on judges in the area. This was in southern Mn.
Instructions from procecutors & judges-"There are plenty going 10-20 over limits, don't waste your and my time with anything less than 10 over limit".
Wrote a few between 5-10 over depending on weather or road conditions or driver actions.

There is a trick to avoiding the cashbox DOT. Stay as far left as you can. They got me for having "exposed" cords on a trailer tire one day coming off the south end of 476. You needed a heavy screwdriver to pry the cracked rubber open to expose them.

Anyhow, in the hour and a half that the broker kept calling me every fifteen minutes to see how it was going, every guy they got was in the right 3 or 4 lanes. I had an extra 45 minutes and sat in line in the right lane that morning. Miss-take!

In PA, you have four hours to correct an over-weight axle, as long as you don't have to repair the vehicle, or take anything off onto the ground. In VA you have an hour.

PA and NY have been working hard trying to help fill budget gaps. As have the locals. In Meadville they lowered the speed limit on route 98 to 45 from 55 with no public hearings, and no "reduced speed ahead" signs. They were writing over a dozen tickets a day the first few weeks, til public outcry got too loud. And the Meadville local cops are writing tickets for having an insert in the reese hitch, unsafe equipment, someone might bust their knee walking behind you truck.

I want them to bust a knee, so I can ask them WHY WERE YOU WALKING THAT CLOSE TO MY TRUCK?!?!?!

Outside Saegertown. If you know where the old Cussewago schoolhouse is, we used to farm the ground across from it.

3 weeks ago I came thru toll plaza near Allentown PA and noticed a couple of cops and 18 wheeler beside road. Pretty obvious that they were finished with truck. I needed some directions and pulled over to ask cops. They were both very friendly...joking if I was volunteering for an inspection. I got information I needed and as I turned to walk back to the truck one of the cops called after me...."Thanks for wearing your seatbelt...That's what we were/are doing today" I've had very little contact with officers in PA, but it all has been pleasant and friendly. I don't recall if these guys were local or state.

ive had the same problems out west, most cops are good people, just doing their job out here and if you respect them there fair enough to get along with, but every once in awhile i'll run into a real moron, you know the type, 6 months out of the academy [ if he has any training at all out here] all badge and attitude, looking to make a name for themselves, had a real problem last year in the area new kid cops little training, even making up laws to suite the claimed ofence, and writing tickets for it, still a couple, but when they do traffic stops now, theu use several cops, seems there was this problem with these guys getting their butts kicked by western guys who simply wont tollerate that kind of stuff , now , if i get one of these bozo's i just let him have his fun, as the judge told me, your not officially guilty of anything until i decide if your guilty or not, always see the judge never sign the guilty line for the cop, oh and your extreamly brave giving any judge a 'piece of your mind' most judges deal with that very severly

Yup thats what happens when local yocals get to much power. I live in York country and we have some local cops with there DOT certifacation and in no way shape or form do u want to lock horns with them. Unless u got a bunch of money u want to donate to York county. The Pa state DOT bears are for the most part petty descent certianly alot better than the local yocals.

I sold my truck and trailer for similar experiences in different parts of the country.
My expereince is that if certain ones pull you, there will be a ticket even if it is for a bug on the windshield. (considered operating unsafe equipment)
I determined that only certain ones acted that way. I have been stopped when they could have written me up for a bulb out, but they did not write a ticket. Just asked me to get a new one ASAP.
I know it must be tough being in law enforcement and catching drug traffic. But I also know that a little common sense and a lot less rogue and out of control ego would vastly improve law enforcement.
Think how many loads of drugs may have passed by in 1.5 hours.
