Braided steel lines .

How do you cut them . Fine hacksaw - band saw - cut off wheel works okay . I am used to #6 lines now Im doing #4 for nitrous on my bike but the die grinder is fraying the ends. This makes it very hard to screw the fitting together.

Try wrapping aluminum tape around the braiding, then cut in the middle. Don't know if a few wraps of aluminum foil would work or not, but the aluminum tape should work well.

Hello dr sportster,

I used thin cut off wheels too. Just wrapping the cut area with tape seamed to work best for small lines.
I also used a chop saw with success for the bigger lines.

At times the cut needed a bit of trimming, but work fine,

Guido.

Google "heavy duty wire cutters" or try to follow the above address.
This is what I use and it does do a neater job if you wrap the hose with duct tape before you cut.

Are you wrapping the area your going to cut tightly with tape? Like electrical tape. Before you try to get the end fitting slipped over the stainless braid?

summit racing and speedway motors have a good assortment of ready made hoses. when I plumbed my car, I found I couldn't build the hoses for what I could buy them for. goodridge has excellent assortment of hoses as well. good luck with your project

I've had the best luck with a [u:3ea62cc7e7]sharp[/u:3ea62cc7e7] cold chisel, a smooth anvil, and a BIG hammer. This works well on hose with the rubber innards. If the hose has a nylon inner tube, the chisel won't work, crushes the nylon.

When I worked at the truck dealer we made up those type of lines for right off the air compressor. We wrapped masking tape around it and then cut in the middle of the tape as said below. Used a cut off chop saw. Same one we used for hyd. lines too.

Time I spent as a bubble chaser in a Hyd shop, was the masking tape and a sharp hack saw. Keep it straight and even. Your biggest enemy is the frayed ends. Chop saw should also work.
