Bought gas and wire

After research and opinions here, I bought a tank of C25 for the Mig, and had to buy new wire, as it took bigger spools than the little Hobart I had borrowed.

That gas will work just fine for steel but not aluminum. Also one has to stay away from windy places since wind will blow the gas away and cause problems. Wire speed also is one of those learned things to get a good weld. BTDT but then again I did mig welding for a living for a few years

David G; Would the small spools from your Hobart not fit the spindle and drive mechanism of the Miller? I thought that all sizes of spools intended for that drive system had the same configuration.

If I remember right from the other post, David bought a Millermatic. Set the thickness and go, the machine does the rest.

Ok I know this because of working at Tracker Marine for 6 years as a Maintenance man and repairing both mig and tig welders all the time. That is why/how I learned tig and mig welding. Some how to repair a machine one has to know how to use it also

I don't know which model Miller you got, but check the manual. Mine will do both the small rolls and the big ones. Just a matter of changing a piece on the wire reel stud.

Once you figure out how to mount that small spool, keep it as a spare for when you run out of wire on the big spool.
