Brass 1/4 turn valve

Where do get a good quality brass valve anymore? The first valve I bought leaked around the stem right off the bat. Tightening the nut didn't help. Second valve I got has a pin hole in the casting. I'm scratching my head on this one. What is a good quality brand name? First valve came from a farm store, second valve came from Menards.

I remember 2 names that we used in the paper mill, so I researched them, Nibco is US made, Apollo is china made. But you never know nowadays, things can change overnight. If it's just for water I would use plastic. Google ball valve, not 1/4 turn.

Nibco and Apollo, my dads friend swore by Apollo and he was a tanker engineer for ESSO. Fast way would be go to a real plumbing supply place. There are also several types of ball valvels for specific fluids. There are ones even for hi pressure steam. Gasoline and water take different valves. Diferent types of materials for the seals. We even have special valves for the fryer drains. The grease is at 400? so junky vaves will melt. Next thing several guys have told ya what to do. Just make sure you spec. the correct valve.

I used to be a rep for Legend ball valves. I had to warranty out very few...Mostly available at plumbing wholesalers...

Learned the hard way to not put those type valves below ground for water shutoff. After a few years, you reach down to shut it off and the handle breaks. You look and the bolt that holds the handle on is a rusted mess and have no way to shut it off.

(quoted from post at 00:27:05 01/23/18) The tag indicates 150 PSI working steam pressure. I think the 1/2 info is pipe thread. Jim

The Chinese went to great trouble to make the molds say 1/2 [u:ba3721cd58]PSI[/u:ba3721cd58] into the casting!!

PSI still equals Pounds per square inch, right?
NPT still means national pipe thread, right?

So after the tag disappears and the valve blows at 10psi they can say NO WARRANTY for you!!

All of the above is sarcasm.

That valve is a WOG 600# class valve. That is: water, oil, gas. cold. 150# is the steam rating on the tag. Poor quality China made. Velan is the brand we use mostly at the power plant. It is made in Canada.

Well if you need the valve NOW you certainly can't wait 5 days for an order to come in...

I'd say third times the charm. I've never had a problem with valves from the orange box store.
