Bungee cords

Looking for some new bungee cords. Curious about the "flat" bungee cords; the ones that I tried didn't seem to have much stretch to them. Are they better than the round cords? Stronger? Last longer in the sunlight?
 
Like everything else " You get what you pay for " Those cheap ones don't stand up in the sun too.
I have some flat ones I got from a truck stop that must be ten years old and still stretch fine.
 
The previous poster is right on. You get what you pay for. I bought a big assortment box of the cheapo rubber bungees from one of the bargain outlets and they are virtually worthless. They appear to be more plastic than rubber and only stretch about 20% past the original length.

Good rubber bingee cords cost a bit more but they last a long time and have a lot of stretch to them.
 
I got adjustable bungie at menards. I like them, but nothing round will stand up to UV. I store mine in tool box. Flat rubber is what you need, but they don't give enough for me.

Are we talking about bungee cords, or tarp straps? They are NOT the same thing. Tarp straps are flat, black, with a heavy duty "S" hook at each end. Bungee cords are usually round, multi-colored, and the hook is just a hook, wound around the cord to secure it. Bungee cords do not last very long. Tarp straps usually get lost before they fail.
 
Spent years on a sail boat, always had bungees fail from the sun. Got a 500 ft roll of BLACK bungee from an upholstery shop. Same as sold to the military. Lasts ten times longer than over the counter cord. Make up your own at the length needed. Just need hooks and some hog rings. I still have just under half the roll, some 23 years later. It's as strong as when I bought it.
