Get a text from a friend that said the ammo companies have told the gov enough is enough and have told the Gov. that they where not going to keep filling the Gov. orders with out also filling the orders for the people so that we can buy ammo as in soon may not have problems finding the ammo you can not find now

When I came back from Thailand after the Vietnam war I decided not to put much faith in the guvment. I probably don't need any more ammo. I have myself covered.

I wont need anything in this lifetime.

Heard about this on a few radio shows the other day. Now I suppose it could all be smoke and mirrors. Hard to know what to believe anymore. A check of the listed manufacturers confirmed what the story said. You be the judge.

I have read that gov agencies that would never have a need for ammo are now being allotted purchasing power. Any thoughts on this besides just another way to drain the ammo market?

over 2 billion rds have been purchased much of it by agencies that do not need the first round.

i have heard its being destroyed and i have heard its being stockpiled.

The truth is who knows except the people buying it.

It is true that ammo makers are at 24/7 production levels

Well to me it is simple. If the gov can not take the guns then they can take the ammo. I do not think the 2nd amendment says anything about ammo so if the people stand up and say hey you can not have my guns is the ammo also protected by the 2nd amendment??

The ammunition is a part of the firearm. The second amendment doesn't say anything about stocks, bolts, magazines, flash suppressors, sights, etc. Banning ammo would still be infringing on our second amendment right.

The 2A says "ARMS" as in a "Standard of Arms" a Standard of Arms is a Rifle a Pistol, a bayonet and any powder and shot which is ammunition and any powder horn or web gear to carry it in. It may also include a sword if its for an officer.

So the 2nd article of amendment covers ammo!

The claim that the 2A doesnt cover ammo is an argument put for by the left but it doesnt stand the facts of history

PS. The USA was making 40,000 standards of arms a year for public arms by 1803. Thanks to the efforts of the office of Arms purator ran by Tench Coxe. Coxe started using a power trip hammer that year at harpers Ferry to make rifle barrels production was greatly increased.

In order to make sense of the info on government ammo buying, you should know that only the military gets thier ammo from Gov. only contractors, such as Lake City, WCC, and so on. All non military government agencies have to get contracts from commerial ammo makers such as Federal Cartridge, Remington, Winchester, and so on. The one point six million cartidges the Homelandsecurity bought is from a commerial company and as such has an impact on how much ammo from that maker gets to the commerial stores. I beieve that if Some ammo maker like Remington has a contract for a small amount of ammo from a government agency and a large contract from Walmart, Midway, Graf"s, or whatever, market pressures will make sure Remington will fill the large one first. Money talks, and when the market demands increase the value or profit of ammo, the maker is going where the most money is. Contrary to popular belief, most government agencies do not have an unlimited buget for ammo and will suffer in a biding war.
Just my 2 cents.

Lake City is the largest supplier of small arms to the military. It is Gov't. owned, but operated by ATK and one other contractor. The "seconds", or ammunition that is not to milspec are either remanufactured or sold to outlets (mostly websites I'm sure we've all visited) for sale to individuals. I have several friends and family members that work there and have myself worked on several of the machines there.

Nonsense. Lake City is a .GOV owned plant, but is run by ATK(Federal etal.) as such you see LC ammo in Federal Boxes from time to time. WCC is Winchester, Again from time to time you commercial Winchester boxes with WCC headstamps in them. Any more you want to run by me?

During WW2 and Korea, Remington was "RA", and Winchester(then Winchester Repeating Arms) was WRA.

I think the goverment owns their own ammunition factories and then they are contractor operated. The one I saw in Scraton Pa seemed to be goverment property. I beleive this started in World War Two. The there is always "out of ammo -fix bayonettes"

Mr DeMaris is still around under the "JLD" handle IIRC. Darn good man from what I've seen. It was some real poor examples of "men" that insulted his kids or grandkids that pushed him away. But you get that more and more here... little, petty people that can do nothing but attempt to hurt or insult others without provocation.

As far as the ammo thing, I still can't believe all the people that won't learn to reload and cast your own bullets. It's not hard at all.

some WW1 ammo has shown up in past 5 years or so- Berlin wall fall, soviet union collapse, China cleaning out the ammo depot before turning it into a toy factory. Stuff is still mostly functional- about 3 out of 100 fail to fire in some lots. Lots of this is 7.62x54R, some 8mm Mannlicher, some .303 mk4 ball, 6.5x53R Dutch/Rumanian Mannlicher, 7x57 spanish heavy ball, odd lots of pistol ammo included some .44 blackpowder Russian rounds reenactor group found and tested- all fired of 30 or so tested. European countries find a case in old storage and don't destroy it like they did 20 years back to make a political point- sell it to the US sporting market and get some money to cover government paychecks. Lots of Russian and old German war booty showing up here now as US is best cash market for ohterwise considered obsolete arms. Mitchells has some of them advertised as well as the old Jugoslav mausers. RN

I doubt that this is true, however it would be an extremely smart move on the part of the manufacturers because the gov is very fickle and is probably creating a shortage at the current time to prevent privat citizens from obtaining ammo. As soon as they get controls in place they will have won the ammo race and will cancel orders....

Well if you think about it there is more then one way to have gun control. If you have noticed in many stores that sell ammo you have a hard time finding many type of it. 22LR is just one example and yes the Gov. buys a lot of 22LR for training etc. So if you can not take the guns you can take the ammo which makes a gun a big club an that is all

You do know there is more then just one way to have gun control don't you?? As in the Gov. has been ordering massive amounts of ammo so as to make ammo harder to get including 22LR which is very hard to come by. So if you can not take the guns you simply make it so the people can not get ammo so you still have gun control since no ammo makes a gun a club and I do not think a rifle makes a very good club

Haven't you figured out by now that 99.99 percent of emails are hoaxes? In this case, you have a hoax on top of a hoax. The first one is that the ammunition shortage was caused by the government. Sorry, but government agents didn't run out and buy all the ammo off Walmart's shelves. The second one is that the ammo makers are going to refuse to fulfill contracts with their single biggest customer. Yeah, right. The current ammo shortage is no different that the toilet paper shortage started by Johnny Carson back '73: Pure hysteria by a gullible public.

Walt it's no secret why there's an ammunition shortage. It started back in the mid-2000's, when the military's demand for ammo started straining production. Not so much for the two wars, but for training the troops going into those wars. For example, I used to be able buy Israeli-made IMI brass, but you can't get it anymore. All of IMI's production is bought up by the US and Israeli military. (The US only uses it for training, since it would be politically unwise for Israeli brass to show up where US troops are fighting muslim insurgents.)

Next the price of brass went out of sight, which drove up ammo prices and made spent brass hard to come by.

Then of course, we had a little panic back in 2008 when everybody started buying everything in sight. Ammo stocks were just starting to recover from that when the Newtown massacre occurred, leading to the current big run on guns and ammo. No conspiracy, just supply and demand, with demand fueled by paranoia.

Had to go to the refinery's weld shop for a few days to cut some 1-inch stainless steel with their plasma cutter. Having lunch with Shell Oil employees, I asked if things were real slow for them with no oil. They laughed their a$$ off! Said what shortage? They said every tank in the tank farms were filled to the brim with gas, and oil tankers anchored out in the bay waiting to dock so they could unload. What a crock!

I think it is just an economics question.
Uncle sam likely wants a discounted price, yet the John Q Public guy will pay the regular price. If Uncle sam were to pay the regular price and not dicker with the ammo mfgs then they would get all their orders filled.
I think the Fed government owns the Lake city ammo plant in Missouri. (I could be wrong)

I haven't heard the one on the ammo yet, but a few of the actual firearm mfgs have told the government they won't accept any orders, from any of the government agencies, if they try push any kind of restrictions on the general populations ability to purchase them also.

It all comes down to one clear fact that way to many politicians in DC, and, unfortunately voters, have forgotten. In this country the government only has powers given to it by the voters, and that power can be taken away just as fast as it was given. I'm just waiting for all of the other mfgs spending billions trying to make the EPA, and other agencies happy over stupid crap come right out and tell them to 'kiss it' and stop making or doing whatever they are doing until the stupidity goes away. I think all it would take would be a week or two of things coming to a complete stop for the folks in DC to get their heads out of their behinds and realize they DO NOT hold the power, and never have, WE THE PEOPLE DO.........

When nearly half of the people get their living from the government, (taxpayers), those people are not going to tell the government anything but to keep the goodies coming. Joe

Many, companies did that. shut down, and moved mfg. to other countries. Did the gov get the message??--NO
Here in NY the govenor ramed through a new gun bill, which even made commonly carried police whepons illegal, and to top that off The Remington Arms plant in Upstate NY, which has been mfg. arms for 198 years here is considering closing their plant here. 1200 direct jobs, gone, plus all the indirect businesses that depend on those employees spending habits.

Our Gov't leaders doesn't care about jobs, they want everyone to get a check. They don't have sense enough to know where the money comes from to write the checks. They will gladly sacrifice a few thousand jobs here and there to fulfill their agendas and gun control is one of them.

Everybody is worried about the gov't putting limits on how much you can buy. Well, guess what? there already are limits! whether caused by gov't or store policy or demand, no one can find much. Thats exactly what they wanted! Oh, sure the stores will return to normal sales later. Fat chance! I'll believe that when I see it!

This has to do with the fact the Gov. has been ordering a lot of extra ammo so many of the companies that make it have said no more till we fill the orders for places like WalMart etc. It is said that this is so that the people can buy as much as the Gov.
